Two years ago, 2018, I went to an Art Studio here in Singapore. I finally decided to drag myself there so I can get motivated with like-minded people (I usually procrastinate when i do things on my own. I have been planning to do this since I first came to Singapore on 2012).
At the studio, the teacher asked, “what do i want to paint for a start?”. I was given with a couple of landscape photos but only this has caught my eye. The teacher told me that i should pick another choice coz this is too challenging for a start especially there are 5 heads involved. I told him, “I agree with you. But I still want to paint this”.
True enough, I was struggling at the beginning. I am not sure what was the problem. Was it me who cannot listen to the teacher? or the teacher wasn't good enough? or the teacher was purposely dragging my time? All I know was I'm paying every hour at the studio and Im just like wasting every seconds figuring things out. So packed my things up, brought my tools and the canvas home and painted on my own. And it was much much much better!
So, I'm calling this piece done. My very first oil painting. Many were fascinated by its beautiful uniqueness. ❤ The processs wasnt easy but it’s a rewarding feeling after all. The 5 ladies right here are sort of giving me some sense of women empowerment. I enjoyed mixing colors for the variations of skin tones.
I hope it's a good start. This not for Sale. Not my original art, YET. Im sure this is pretty familiar to many. This is a homage to Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. Read more about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Demoiselles_d%27Avignon
