I wanted to move my Sansi grow light from the side to directly above my Monstera 🌱

But drilling holes into the wall? Nope. 😂

So I put together a simple no-drill setup using a flexible E27 lamp, folding door hook and smart plug.

Now the light sits exactly where I want it without permanently modifying the wall.

Would you try this setup for your planted aquarium? 👀🌱

A 10L low-tech, no-filter Walstad aquarium built as a little world for these feral wild-type guppies. 🌱🐟

Under the carpet of floating plants, there’s a whole ecosystem: guppies foraging, reverted Neocaridina shrimp grazing, and ramshorn snails cleaning up.

And somehow, these little feral guppies keep surprising me with their colours. ✨

Would you keep a tiny ecosystem like this?

One of my favourite moments in the hobby 🥹🌱

Just a few tiny shrimp and guppy fry gathering around their food in a peaceful little ecosystem.

No filter. No rushing. Just plants, water, and tiny creatures doing their thing. 🦐🐟

Not every Indian almond leaf has to be about tannins. 🍂

For my shrimp tank, my main reasons for adding these mini Indian almond leaves are:

🦐 A natural food source as the leaves break down
🌿 Extra cover and grazing surfaces for my Neocaridina
💧 And I simply prefer the leaves to sink rather than float around the tank

I prepare these aquarium-store-bought leaves by steeping them in hot water and letting them cool completely before adding them.

Yes, steeping can remove some of the tannins. But that isn’t my priority here.

The leaves still retain tannins after steeping, and based on my past observations, adding them the next day doesn’t noticeably tint my water either.

So am I “wasting” the tannins? Or am I simply preparing the leaves for a different purpose? 👀

This Monstera deliciosa has 11 healthy leaves, growing with its roots in a 30cm cube aquarium 🌿

The tank is also home to feral guppies, Neocaridina shrimp and ramshorn snails. A little underwater ecosystem with a Monstera growing right out of it. 🐟🦐🐌

This 5-gallon Walstad aquarium is home to Least Rasboras, Fire Red Neocaridina shrimp and ramshorn snails.

Tonight’s menu: shrimp pellets for the shrimp and micro pellets for the nano fish. 🦐🐟

Which would you watch first: the fish feeding or the shrimp feeding? 👀

These juvenile feral guppy males are starting to show their colours 👀

One is already developing orange, blue iridescence and black patches, while the other is only showing a few white iridescent spots so far.

Will more colours appear as they mature? I’m definitely keeping an eye on them. 🐟

My epiphytes were getting a little too much light, so instead of buying something… I made this. 😂🌿

A simple floating ring made from airline tubing, fishing line and a curtain adjuster hook.

It stays above the Anubias and Bucephalandra, creating a little shaded zone while still letting me control how much light reaches them.

Would you try this DIY in your aquarium? 👀

Instead of a mechanical filter, this 25x25x30cm tank uses a dense plant canopy (Tiger Red Lotus, Limnophila sessiliflora, Crypt Wendtii, and Dwarf Hairgrass) to absorb excess nutrients and generate pure oxygen. It’s a completely self-sustaining slice of nature for the livestock! 🦐🐟
