Yeap it is challenging to make precision gears. Usually a negative offset is needed to make the gear so slightly smaller so it can mesh and rotate smoothly. It can make a huge difference whether u r using a 50 microns or a 30 microns offset. Too large, the gears get jammed and if too small, there is lot of back lash. Hoping that current batch of gears will be good 🙏

Designed a brand new torso for this double . I had planned to use sheet metal for its internal load bearing structure and a large 3dprinted cover for its front and back but the costs to such large piece is incredibly expensive. Furthermore I had a really hard time designing its waist and hip and the former torso ends abruptly. So, I decided to redesign the torso with flat 3mm aluminium plate, bolted onto a rotating pillar as its waist. I think it looked much better now ?

I thought I wanted to just play around with its joints and the two should reach many places. I am still undecided on what to do with the head. I am thinking it might be helpful to put two cameras as it’s eyes and perhaps use to identify the object it need to pick up and keep track of the arm position. maybe to identify if it was successful in doing what was intended. I still had to design the hip which will be its anchor while allowing rotation just like our waist. After that i will be doing a thorough design review before starting to turn this concept into something real. Wish me luck!

Just finish the first draft of the torso for this new variant of . It has two arms which can work together to more complex tasks. It is designed to mimic our own arms. The torso are largely empty and the electronics will go into the torso. I think the torso looks abit “box-y”? Perhaps the corner at the shoulder should be more rounded. And also I have learnt my lesson which is to complete as much of the design, check and verify the design, modify if needed before jumping into fabricating the parts. It’s a lot more efficient to change on a computer screen than to realise my mistake after fabricating the parts

Rework the shoulder to keep it more compact. It’s been a long awhile since I feel some satisfaction 😀. I think the design is almost there. I do think that the forearm is a little too feminine and the biceps and shoulder are too masculine? They are unfortunately design at different time so it had a different feel to it.

Definitely struggled with the design of the shoulder / collarbone bracket. I was trying to find a good balance between functionality and aesthetic. Done several sketches and different concept and finally decided on this one. This bracket required anchor points for a 90:1 , piston connection and some large bearing for support. It look great to me 😃. Let me know what u think !

Just added a simple lever at the back of its bicep. A 30:1 drive is nested within the “bicep” of this the torque is then transmit to its elbow to provide motion to the forearm. This help save space and reduce stress on its shoulder. Really Hoping this will turn out good

Just finished some touch up on the biceps for my new robotic arm design concept. Did a quick sketch of the shoulder portion to get a quick feel of the whole design. The proportions of different part looks good to me so far. was hidden inside all the casing, occasionally.

Been almost a month since I last posted. I was busy working on a totally brand new design. I was thinking since I am planning a redesign of a , why not do something different? Actually it turn out our own human arm is also if you minus the wrist movement. Decided to make full use of and throw in lots of complex curve that took my skills to the limits. For this design I am also prioritise more on aesthetic over actual limits. I felt that strength is quite decent and I was probably over worrying about the printing orientation too much. And with stuffs like dissolvable supports. It’s also easier to print in different orientation. on a side note I probably will design my as a stand one. I figure out it might be easier to manufacture than having it intergrated into the structure. What do y’all think of this new design ? Let me know !
