What were we looking at when we went to the Into The Modern: Impressionism exhibition for a second time? We were looking for the artworks that manage to catch our attention again. We were looking closely at the textures, strokes and use of colours. One significant point that Impressionism managed to achieve based on the conversations that we overheard at the exhibition was the way that it was able to allow the public appreciate the beauty of the plein air as expressed by the artists in this Impressionism movement and not focus on how realistic the artworks look. Like what we often tell our students, “How do you want viewers to feel when they look at your artworks?” We feel that Impressionism conveys this in a very organic and personal way.
