YANTRA CARTOGRAPHY SYSTEM - Lino Cut Workshop

A short introduction to the olden cartographic system of creating yantras guided by exhibiting artist, Vimal Kumar. Participants will have a chance to come up with their own contemporary take of a yantra based on any location they choose!

That's a wrap for our artist talk! Thank you to all who joined us earlier today! It was a good 1.5 hours of sharing our insights and thought processes behind the show. Apart from the curatorial premise being discussed, Elaine also shared strategies on navigating around exhibition spaces by using elements like workshops and poetry readings.

FLORAL AS PRAXIS: WITHERING PRESENCE - Floral Arrangement

Floral As Praxis: Withering Presence is a cerebral workshop exploring fresh floral arrangements (that paricipants get to bring home) and the visual language inherent in their display. While creating their own arrangements, Tekad Kolektif's Amirah Raudhah will guide participants on a discussion of the historical roots of floral imagery.

Introducing our fourth artist for With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations, Vimal Kumar!

Vimal Kumar is a multidisciplinary Singaporean artist with an interest in the visual aspect of storytelling, often delving into narratives of the unseen. His works explore themes related to culture, heritage, spirituality, and ecology. Vimal will be running a workshop on Yantra Cartography on the 23rd of October as part of the exhibition.

Introducing our third artist for With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations, Masuri Mazlan!

Singapore-based cultural worker and object maker Masuri Mazlan graduated with a BA in Fine Arts (First Class Honours) accredited by Goldsmiths, University of London. In 2016, he was awarded the prestigious Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Scholarship Award and was also a recipient of the coveted International TAKIFUJI Art Award by the Japan Traffic Culture Association (2017).

Introducing our second artist for With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations, Fitri Ya'akob!

Fitri is constantly exploring the philosophical nuances in human relationships and the way they intermingle and influence space and time, as a way of understanding her relationships and her social environment. Personal narratives imbued with element of spirituality and carnal human emotions, her works are commentaries of the different circumstances where she expounds on the duality and sometimes hypocrisy of certain ideologies and theories that have been palatable.

Introducing our first artist for With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations, Dylan Chan!

Dylan's practice abstract instances from everyday life, and draws from memories and reminiscences that centers around intimacy. He explores the possibilities of image making alongside object-oriented compositions. He composes and weaves together images into a textured landscape thats threads between fact and fiction, and often tells solitary narratives.

MY BODY AS A SANCTUARY - Cyanotype Printing

As part of World Cyanotype Day 2021 (Saturday, 25th Sep) we will be conducting a Cyanotype Printing workshop over at Objectifs Workshop Space! Cyanotype Instructor, Ratna Sutara, will be leading our workshops with a more in-depth introduction on the Cyanotype process and how it immortalizes personal relics, family heirlooms, and other trace markers of memory. Exhibiting artist, Masuri Mazlan, will be on hand to discuss image-making within his art practice.

Tekad Kolektif is inviting you to submit your poetry as part of With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations!

Five poems of any length and language (please provide an English translation where possible) will be selected, and the writers will be invited to perform their pieces at a Poetry Reading in the Chapel Gallery on the 23rd of October alongside the Exhibition. All applicants/writers must be based in Singapore.

Each winner will receive an honorarium of $100 and the poem will be published in the exhibition's catalogue. A big thank you to those who have submitted, and we are looking forward to more submissions!

Tekad Kolektif is back and proud to present With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations, 23 Sep to 31 Oct 2021 @ Chapel Gallery, Objectifs! Led by the recipient of Objectifs Curator Open Call 2021 and of course, our very own, Elaine Thanya Marie Teo.

Featuring artworks made by artists from a diverse range of disciplines: Dylan Chan, Fitri Ya'akob, Masuri Mazlan and Vimal Kumar. Curator Elaine Teo aims to draw the wider community in Singapore to reflect and contemplate the idea of home. The exhibition is an exploration into intimate spaces, and depicts photography in more experiential ways. With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations quietly implodes the idea of one-dimensionality in photography as well as brings in elements of how memory is encoded.
