😅 Yeah… same. That's honestly why I started making my own.

My Sambal Kicap is just real chillies, sweet soy, gula melaka, a splash of vinegar and a squeeze of lime — that's it 🌶️ No mystery powders, no preservatives you need a science degree to read.

Sweet-smoky, a little sticky, proper kick. The kind of thing that makes plain rice or grilled chicken taste like you actually tried 😋

Some days you don't need a fancy meal — just rice and a really good sambal belacan 😮‍💨🌶️

I used to settle for the bottled stuff, but it never hit right. Too salty, a bit too fishy, or just… flat.
So I started making my own — proper belacan, that funky-savoury kick, finished with a squeeze of lime that wakes the whole plate up.

Now? Plain rice, a piece of chicken, a good spoon of my Belacan — and honestly I'm happier than I'd be at most restaurants 😅

Tried making Korean-style chicken jeon at home this week and honestly? Almost didn't post it because I couldn't stop eating it 😅

Here's the thing — crispy chicken is great, but it's the dip that makes or breaks it. And I'm so done with sad bottled sauces that taste like sugar water. So I reached for my own Sambal Kicap instead… and wow. That sweet-smoky kick against the golden, crispy chicken? Dangerous 🔥

Best part is it's not even complicated. Pan-fry, plate, dip. Even a lazy weeknight dinner suddenly tastes like something I'd order off a menu ✨

Okay confession 😅 I genuinely cannot eat plain rice anymore.

It started because I got so sick of the bottled sambal at the supermarket — you know the type, all sugar, zero kick, tastes like nothing. Half the time I'd rather just eat my food plain than waste it on that. So I started making my own at home… and now there's no going back 🌶️

Ended up with two, because I couldn't pick one. The Belacan is the spicy-tangy one that actually punches back. The Kicap is sweet-smoky and a bit gentler, for when you're not trying to cry over your dinner 😂 Both homemade, both halal, no weird preservatives — just real chilli doing real work.

The best part? Even sad leftover rice or a plain fried egg suddenly tastes like something I'd actually order. One drizzle and the whole meal changes ✨
