need to create a common platform to bridge designers with the industry. In partnership with DesignS, SingaPlural is held in conjunction with the International Furniture Fair Singapore/ASEAN Furniture Show and Nook Asia. Supported by DesignSingapore Council, International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, Singapore Tourism Board and SPRING Singapore, SingaPlural is also the anchor event of the annual Singapore Design Week, which is organised by the DesignSingapore Council, a part of the Ministry of Communications and Information. The Graceful Fig by Stone Amperor, MM Galleri and Lian Architects is super cool for more reasons than one. To fabricate the fig shell shape, the base formwork of the structure is made from rattan, with a honeycomb aluminium sheet placed over it. For increased tensile strength, stainless steel rods are placed where reinforcement is required. With a specially patented technology from MM Galleri, the stone is melted and moulded over the structure to form this final product.

What we see here on display at is at a mere thickness of 20mm - thinnest that they can achieve at the moment. Lian Architects had created an algorithm for easy customisation of the form - opening up to endless possibilities for the implementation of the technology.

Ipse Ipsa Ipsum seeks to break free from the uniformity of our daily lives, by exploring each society’s unique culture and connecting the special element to our living spaces.

The pieces on display are designed to fit into urban homes, with its space-conscious compactness and multi-purpose utilities, yet at the same time, using traditional handcrafting methods, honouring our cultural heritage.

Find out more about their vision and design process at our Beyond the Surface exhibitor talks tomorrow, 13 March 2019. Admission is free, and registration is required. Head over to the link in bio for more details.
