1. BE ENGAGED:

(i) Participate In Our " Young Leaders Preparedness Programme"
Throughout the month of Nov 2017 -Jan 2018, activities will be organised to provide experiential learning opportunities for young volunteers. "Inclusion & Integration Made Simple": An SDGs Accelerator Programme
- We promote a down-to-earth approach in cultivating inclusion and integration by enabling future leaders to "play, socialise and work" together with our differently abled beneficiaries (people who have different physical, mental/ cognitive & social abilities). In the process, young participants will be encouraged to analyse the state of integration and inclusion for the differently abled in the context of SDG 3, 4, 8, 10 and 11 above and think of ways in which they can be improved. The Young Leaders Preparedness Programme is a phenomenon learning programme that anchors learning to real life phenomenon or situation. The programme provides experiential learning opportunities and training, and facilitates youth-community collaborations and youth-community generated solutions in order to promote “collaborative learning”, critical thinking and problem-solving in the context of the above focused goals for the differently abled. (ii) Sign Up & Join Our Focus Groups
-The focus groups will be formed to stimulate partnerships in the "co-creation of knowledge" to advance inclusion, integration, equal opportunities and the protection of the differently abled in relation to their education, health, employment and employability (which includes both job-preparedness & employee retention). The objective of the community-based collaboration is to develop new ideas, skills, methodologies, approaches, solutions, products and services from the ground-up to ensure relevancy, cohesion and effectiveness of programmes, approaches and policies.

2. EXPLORE & LEARN: Explora Learning Programme
- The Festival will feature "Explora Learning" a programme comprising of sports, photography, handicrafts, gardening, food art, performance arts and activities to address socio-economic disparities. Explora Learning activities are organised with the support of members from the focus groups and are designed to generate the experience and expertise necessary to create effective transition programmes and activity centres for the future.

3. CO-CREATE & INITIATE: Explora Transition Initiatives
-Following the , participants will be encouraged to partner for the SDGs (SDG 17) and co-create meaningful initiatives that advance integration and inclusion in our focused areas/ SDGs mentioned above. Explora Transition Initiatives are aimed to
(i) stimulate "higher standards" transition support programmes for stakeholders at all stages of their lives; and
(ii) nurture systems that accommodate "life-long" needs & challenges of persons with different cognitive and physical abilities. The multi-disciplinary & multi-stakeholders nature of the focus groups will enable participants to leverage on the broader experience and expertise provided by the different members as well as promote participatory consultation, community ownership and community-driven solutions to ensure sustainability. WHO CAN JOIN?
1. Stakeholders (primary/ secondary), potential employers, professionals working in the education, health and employment-readiness sectors;
2. Students, youth groups and individuals interested in achieving the indicated focus goals for people with varied abilities. "If we are together, nothing is impossible"

DEPRESSION PREVENTION WORKSHOP: SELF-ACCEPTANCE

DAY: Thursday, 29th, April, 2021
TIME: 8.00 p.m. – 9.00 p.m. (Singapore time)

“Based on my own personal experiences and my observations of depressed people, self-acceptance is an important unresolved issue. Very often, self-acceptance is obstructed by the master negative emotion -- the shame factor. Because of toxic shame, the depressed person is extremely reluctant to acknowledge or take ownership of the problem. In mental illness, when the patient is not willing to take responsibility of his/her problem, then depression is not deemed to be a problem at all. Is that true? Can self-denial be the magic wand to clear away our mental clutters? The answer is obvious. No wonder depression has been spiking year after year until there are probably more than 300 million cases in our pandemic-afflicted world today.
In my workshop this coming Thursday, I am going to share with you my own experiences about this sensitive issue of taking responsibility of my own depressed emotions. I am certainly not an expert on this topic. Far from it. But as a fellow traveller with lifelong depressed mindset, who has trudged over such a treacherous terrain, I can share with you some beneficial common-sense tips on how to navigate positively on such journeys.

Why do I want to do this? Definitely not for fame or for money! There is a season for everything in life. In my present season (now at age eighty), I only want to share my experiences to help others manage their depressed emotions positively so that they can live authentic and meaningful lives. It is my way of showing gratitude by sharing God’s unconditional love with others to make a positive difference in our broken world. At best, I believe my authentic experiences may give hope and courage for other depressed souls to open their hearts to God’s compassion and healing grace. God is the ultimate Physician who can certainly heal us of our depression.

May I have the privilege of inviting you to join us in our next FREE zoom workshop. Please invite your needy friends to come along. Our last workshop on the 15th April attracted about 30 participants – some from as far as UK and Australia.”

From one special dad to another

“I’m a special dad. For 14 years, I’ve walked through the journey you’re experiencing now.

The thing is that no one really tells you what to do, and old school men like me don’t really ask because we feel we have the responsibility of being the provider of the family come what may.

You may be starting to accept your child’s diagnosis, or searching for elusive answers with Google. But nothing can help you as much as being with other special dads, knowing you’re not the only one trying to make sense of the turbulence ahead.

As one special dad to another, this is what I think you should prepare for.”
