"My name is Bel and I'm a painter and community artist with interests in experimental soundscapes.
I have been asked by Konstfrämjandet Gotland to be part of a large group exhibition happening in September in Tingstäde called, 'The Swamp, the Church and the Bunker'
Many organizations will be part of the exhibition, including Gotland Museum, BALTIC arts centre, and Gotland's Tonsättarskola . All the artists involved are responding to either history, geology, architecture and natural environment , their work will be in sound, in sculpture, film, painting ,photography, writing and performance.
There will be other mediums and directions their work takes, as time goes on.
For my part I wish to invite you and others to be part of a procession, that joins all the three sites together. The swamp, then the bunker, which leads onto the church.
I would like for us to make hand-held creatures ( real or imagined) and carry them from the lake, into and through the bunker, then to the church , where Martine will place them near the alter.
As part of the procession, I wish for a group to ring glass goblets. This group will be given glasses, and will fill them up with water, from the lake, then carrying them to the bunker where we will play them, accompanied by the opera singer Bjorn Thudén , then onto the church were we will ring as the hand held animals are taken to the alter.
The procession is inspired by the story of Noahs Ark. It is a ritual, a passage through the uncertainty of the future of the natural world. It is a lament and it is also about connecting and being creative. a coming together of us all, in making, in thought, in sounds, and in play."
