“Dancing in the mist” by for LKPG. ➡️ swipe for a little bit closer look. Lovely wall where she really captured the mystique that Swedish forests can have sometimes when the light is right. That mystique that is the inspiration to folklore tales and many Swedish artworks like John Bauer’s beautiful fairytale illustrations. These are her own words about the painting.

“This wall tells a tale of folklore in Sweden from the saying “the elves are dancing in the mist “älvdans (elf/fairy dance), where the unseen movement of mist in the landscape is interpreted as elves dancing, a weather phenomenon of, ground-level mist, especially on clear, still summer and autumn mornings and evenings.” which is rather apt as the seasons are changing”

”Sometimes You Have to Let the Train Pass” by .cao for Eslöv just opposite the Railway. swiipe for close ups.
The railway is important in he history of Esöv as the crucial step of turning a small village to a city was when the Railway arrived in the mid 19th Century. These are Lidia’s own Words about the mural ”A perspective from calm, from a world where rush devours us and perhaps not all trains are worth it if it is not what we are looking for.”

In 2023, the talented artist was invited by in Vänersborg to undertake a challenging project: an anamorphic 3D mural spanning two walls. Despite never having worked with anamorphic art before, Charlie embraced the challenge. With guidance from his friend and anamorphic master – and a great deal of hard work – he left us with this stunning piece titled “Self Imprisonment Blues”.
He writes “The ancient symbol of freedom: the bird, stands at the crossroads of freedom and hesitation. The ”cage” is fully open, the key even rests in the lock - yet the bird contemplates its next move. Sometimes the only jailer is your own fears, and the key to freedom is in your hands.”
The festival is inspired by the concept of the telephone game where local writers and poets create a text based on a classic painting.
The mural artist then receives the text or poem as inspiration without knowing which painting it was originally based on.
For this wall, the hidden artwork was “Study of a Bird” by Riza-yi Abbasi (last picture - swipe).
The accompanying poem “What Makes a Wagtail”, used as inspiration for the mural was written by Gurli Malmqvist and is presented here in a short and concise English translation.
“To find a wagtail’s soul, one must see as the wagtail sees.
It is not enough to paint its wings or capture its form —
the artist must set aside every human truth,
and step into the small, bright mind of the bird.
Sometimes, all that remains is a single, black stroke on the canvas.
Yet that stroke is the wagtail.
And on such days, the artist may rest.”

”it is a time of plenty
it is a time of death
the fields stretch toward the horizon
we meet
at first light
to gather
we honor the earth
with our song
of roots,
clay and sun
the scent of broken soil fills our noses
but the scythe harvests more
than the grain and the ear

.o.o.d.l.s is a Gothenburg-based artist who describes her work as follows: ”My visual landscapes span abstract shapes, repetitive geometric patterns, and playful figurations. I’m drawn to the imperfect and irregular. I embrace mistakes and the visibly handmade.”
It was a real pleasure to see her bring that vision to life for in Vänersborg in 2023

For this wall, the hidden artwork was ”Nr 3. De tio största, Ynglingaåldern” by Hilma af Klint (last picture - swipe).
The accompanying poem ”Dizziness of Youth”, used as inspiration for the mural, was written by punk poet and is presented here in English translation.
”You carried the sea in your pocket
light as a seashell
the damp against your thigh
a cold kick

as you ran in spirals
around an abandoned town
shouting at the snails
to stay away

You were hooked on headwinds
and loose ends
the sunrise a mandarin
you caught in your mouth

You were drawn to palettes
splashed paint on every injustice
mixed wildly
until it all clashed

The scent of seaweed
twined around your legs
as you traced circles in the gravel
and stood still for two seconds

In time, you’d make it to the future.”
