Dialogues of the Sea är en interaktiv installation där havets mående visualiseras i vattenånga. Med data som samlas in av autonoma bojar placerade vid Styrsö i Göteborgs skärgård och utanför ön Suðuroy på Färöarna speglas havets förändringar i realtid.🌊💚

På plats kan besökaren interagera med ångan, den största beståndsdelen i växthuseffekten, som en symbol för människans påverkan på klimatet.
Utställningen är en prototyp av ett större projekt med ambition att placera bojar på fler platser i Arktis, som Island och Svalbard.🧡

A couple of weeks ago, I was on Suðuroy in the Faroe Islands with a project I call Dialogues of the Sea.

Dialogues of the Sea is an intercultural art project involving autonomous buoys that takes shape between three locations in the North Atlantic: Styrsö in the Gothenburg archipelago, Vágur on Suðuroy (Faroe Islands), and Vestmannaeyjar (Iceland).

The buoys will be designed through a process involving children, sound, and water v***r, and the project addresses the impact of climate change on the ocean. Water v***r is the primary gas contributing to the greenhouse effect, and if you’re interested in interacting with the greenhouse effect, you can do so at an installation I will present during the Gothenburg Science Festival in April.

In the Faroe Islands, I set up and tested the basic infrastructure as well as communication with the buoy site out in the fjord, and held a workshop with children who created stop-motion films about buoys that found companion buoys in distant places.

Climate researchers in Gothenburg, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands are also involved in the project. The project is now entering its next phase, and if everything goes according to plan, there will be parallel exhibitions in Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Sweden in 2027.

We have started a cultural association on Styrsö called Kulturföreningen Ladan. Yesterday, we held our first event of the spring in our barn on Lilla Byvägen.

With cultural support from the City of Gothenburg.

Been prototyping this for a while. Building a custom flipdotdisplay made of wooden dots. Been prototyping with different kind of wire and number of turns, different permanent magnets, thickness of the wood, powering with capacitors as well as other solutions to reduce the current and prevent heatgeneration.

It works pretty well with a framerate of around 10 frames per second. So for I have managed the pwm controll with n-channel mosfets. To further controlling multiple dots and further reduce the current Ive orderered p-channel mosfets that in combination with n-channel multiplexing the dots over an h-bridge.
