Someone might have autistic traits without being autistic, but if you know someone who IS or might be autistic then you shouldn’t call them “a little bit autistic” because it invalidates the hidden struggles of autistic people who efficiently mask, or pushes others to feel the need to prove that they’re autistic enough for you to acknowledge that they are.

For a long time I struggled with the idea that I was possibly autistic, but I always denied myself thinking about it and investigating it because I didn’t know that there were many different kind of autism. I know some autistic people and I could see I was nothing like them, but I also didn’t want to be like them. I didn’t want to be autistic.

But autism is actually a spectrum, so one isn’t “a little bit autistic” and another isn’t “very deeply autistic”; both are autistic but with different traits and challenges.
