MITT UNDER SIN sabbatsperiod fick ALAN GILBERT frågan om att dirigera Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester i Mahlers nia, när Herbert Blomstedt behövde ställa in av hälsoskäl.

Konserten direktsänds i P2 och med bild på Berwaldhallen Play, fredag 29 maj kl 19.

🇬🇧In the middle of his sabbatical, Alan Gilbert was asked to conduct the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Mahler’s Ninth Symphony when Herbert Blomstedt had to pull out for health reasons.

The concert will be broadcast live on P2 and streamed with video on Berwaldhallen Play on Friday 29 May at 7 pm.

Throughout his career, Daniel has been dedicated to music education, and he is passionate about supporting and growing YOLA, including planning an international tour honoring the Frank Gehry centennial in 2029, and expanding access to music education in LA County schools.

With this appointment, Daniel will spearhead the LA Phil's evolving artistic leadership team which includes Creative Director Esa-Pekka Salonen; Conductor-in-Residence Anna Handler; and Gustavo Dudamel, who last week was appointed to the new positions of Artistic and Cultural Laureate of the LA Phil and Founding Director and Conductor Laureate of YOLA. Within the next year, this illustrious assembly will be completed with the appointments of two new positions: Creative Chair for Latin Music and Creative Chair for Film.

Felix Mendelssohn fyllde sin storslagna andra symfoni med festliga fanfarer, brusande orkesterkaskader och stämningsfulla körer för att fira boktryckarkonstens 400-årsjubileum. Det första Gutenberg tryckte med sin revolutionerande uppfinning var Bibeln, och där fann Mendelssohn verser som hyllar både Gud och upplysningen.

Ikväll framförs Mendelssohns kantatsymfoni i Berwaldhallen av Radiokören, Västerås Sinfonietta, Musica Vitae och dirigent Simon Crawford-Phillips. ✨

HERBERT BLOMSTEDT ersätts av dirigent Alan Gilbert vid konserterna 29–30 maj

Herbert Blomstedt har på inrådan av läkare valt att ställa in sin medverkan i konserterna i Berwaldhallen 29–30 maj. Efter en tids hälsoproblem, som han nu är på bättringsvägen från, är han ordinerad vila.

Berwaldhallen, Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester och Herbert Blomstedt är mycket
tacksamma över att Alan Gilbert, chefsdirigent för NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester i Hamburg och musikchef vid Kungliga Operan, med kort varsel tackat ja till att dirigera konserterna med samma program, Mahlers nia.

Vi önskar Herbert Blomstedt ett snabbt tillfrisknande.

Herbert Blomstedt to be replaced by Alan Gilbert for the concerts on 29–30 May

On medical advice, Herbert Blomstedt has decided to withdraw from the concerts at Berwaldhallen on 29–30 May. Following a period of ill health, from which he is now recovering, he has been advised to rest.

Berwaldhallen, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Herbert Blomstedt are very
grateful that Alan Gilbert, chief conductor of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra in Hamburg and music director at the Royal Opera, has agreed at short notice to conduct the concerts with the same programme, Mahler’s Ninth.

We wish Maestro Blomstedt a speedy recovery.

The Eric Ericson Award is one of the world’s most prestigious competitions for young choral conductors under the age of 36, with strong international recognition and high artistic ambitions. The prize offers the next generation of conductors a unique springboard to an international career and continues the legacy of Eric Ericson and the standard he established within the international choral world.

The competition is organised by Berwaldhallen in collaboration with the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, with support from the Rosenborg Gehrmans Foundation and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
