We:R Performance Collective

We:R Performance Collective We:R is an independent performance collective created by Rebecca Björling and Rebecca Rosier. We work using verbatim theatre techniques and improvisation.

We are interested in crossing genre boundaries and collaborating with other artists. About us

We:R Performance Collective is a dance and performance collective based in Sweden and directed by Rebecca Björling and Rebecca Rosier. Coming from two different perspectives, and two different countries, our focus lies both in creating work that tells meaningful stories, and bringing dance to a wider aud

ience. We often work across genres and collaboratively with other art forms. Our projects are often based around text (traditional and contemporary texts as well as our own material). CV

We are excited to introduce some new energy to our collective. 🙌

Justine Kirk is an actor, dancer and choreographer, active in theatre, film & television. Justine was born in the US but grew up in Sweden where she trained as a dancer at Balett Akademien. She has written and directed plays, done coaching for young actors, and held art lessons for children. She is also a journalist and worked many years at Sveriges Television as a tv host and digital communicator. She has a degree in screenwriting, and has written the book "Mitt bröst, mitt liv – den tunna tråden”. Justine started collaboration with We:R Performance Collective by cocreating the piece CAPUT CAPILLUS that was shown at in Tirana last year.

"Being a human being is extremely hard. Art offers tools to tackle the tantalizing task to find happiness in life. When movement and words move hearts and touch souls there is hope. So let’s dance, let’s raise our voices, let’s reach out – to each other."

Welcome Justine 🤗
Let's get this ball rolling 💥

This happened yesterday evening at THE CLOUD FESTIVAL at Reja.al

Rebecca Björling performed the solo Kiran choreographed and produced by We:R Performance Collective

"Kiran is an excerpt from Love Too Much, a stage work currently under construction, based on true stories of female experience, as told through interviews with people around the world. This particular piece is centered around an interview with Kiran Gandhi (Madame Gandhi )- a touring musician, Harvard graduate and feminist activist. The interview focuses around her memorable marathon run, in which she bled freely during her period, both for her own comfort, and as an act of protest against menstrual stigma.
The work is designed to be slow and meditative - focused, steady and strong - the same qualities required for running a marathon, say, or undertaking an act of radical feminist activism."

Thank you to the Embassy of Sweden in Tirana and Ambassador Elsa Håstad in Albania for making this happen! 🙏

Artists each have their own special relationship to their muse - the magic, mysterious, unpredictable force that inspires them to create their work. And while each relationship is unique, all artists go through similar processes with their muse: at the start, a beautiful dream or idea, something vague and interesting - ‘inspiration’ perhaps. Then follows the hard work; which can be draining and frustrating or exciting and challenging. Artists sometimes quit here, but if they continue, they eventually reach completion - a measured, well-rehearsed calmness where everything seems to fall into place.

This short film is intended to represent that process. Whether you are creating or learning or rehearsing, you are not alone in this process, and it’s never wasted effort. Trust the process, and most importantly: enjoy the process, because the truth of any work is not the end product but the work that it took to create it.

Schubert vs The Muse is a collaborative project between Bim and We:R Performance Collective. The choreography was created and intensively rehearsed in five days at Tegelscenen in Stockholm, and filmed at Danscentrum, Stockholm.

Choreography and dance performance: Rebecca Björling Velasco , Rebecca Rosier, Daniele Varallo
