Opening this week at Detroit Stockholm: Finnish Video Art Summer Exhibition – Thursday, 13 August 2026, 17:00–20:00. 🌞

We warmly invite you all to the vernissage of Finnish Video Art Summer Exhibition. 🌅 The exhibition brings together works by five contemporary Finnish artists:

Elena Näsänen
Anni Puolakka

Minna Suoniemi

The artworks move through memories, generations, microcosms, the unknown, and various in-between spaces. Together, these works invite the viewer to explore different narratives, emotions, and worlds unfolding through the moving image.

The exhibition is initiated and organized by Hinni Huttunen. The exhibition and Huttunen’s artistic practice are supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland – The Arts Council of South Savo and Konstnärsnämnden (the Swedish Arts Grants Committee).

Hinni Huttunen Hinni Huttunen is a visual artist working with video and photography. She feels passionate about self-portraiture, romance and never-ending embarrassing emotions. Huttunen graduated as a Bachelor of Culture and Arts from Tampere University of Applied Sciences in 2014 and as a Master of Fine Art from Kungl. Konsthögskolan in Stockholm in 2018. At the moment she lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden.

Elena Näsänen Elena Näsänen, M.A., is a media artist and filmmaker based in Helsinki. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki and at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. In her moving-image works, she explores identity, time, and memory. At the heart of her narrative is the relationship between people and their environment. Her works are characterized by a strong female perspective and thriller-like suspense. Näsänen’s works are held in the collections of the Serlachius Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma and the Finnish National Gallery. The Arts Promotion Center Finland has awarded Näsänen an Artist-in-Residence grant for media art for the years 2022-26.

Anni Puolakka annipuolakka is based in Helsinki and makes performances, videos, installations, drawings and texts in which biographical materials are incorporated into fictional worlds. The works play with the boundaries and potential of human animals as they seek meaningful and vibrant – sometimes drowsy or dirty – involvement with other beings, objects and surroundings.

Welcome to (e)merging bodies.

Seen together for the first time, the video works, Thermal Duets (2016) and Who Cares (2023), alongside the photographic series Who Cares Conversations (2026), emerge from an extended interdisciplinary research process combining movement,
choreography and thermal imaging technology to explore themes of care, touch and embodiment

Artist Biographies:

Caroline Broadhead’s interdisciplinary practice explores objects that come into contact with and interact with the body. Her work is exhibited internationally and represented in many international collections, including V&A, Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, Museum of Art and Design, New York and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. Her retrospective exhibition (2017) was shown in the Netherlands and the UK. Finalist in the Loewe Craft Prize 2025. She is Professor Emerita at Central Saint Martins, London.

Dance maker Angela Woodhouse’s work is essentially interdisciplinary and collaborative and has been shown widely over the last 30 years, most recently (Un)touched (2016-2020) and (de)figured (2017) in collaboration with artist Nathaniel Rackowe, exhibited in Belgrade, Oslo and Dubai respectively. Her latest work with Nathaniel, Desire Lines (2024-5), was commissioned by South Bank Centre, London as part of Winter Lights Festival. She studied with choreographers Alwin Nikolais and Murray Louis (NYC) and worked with Reinhild Hoffmann (Berlin) and Sara Pearson (USA).
