Jag är djupt hedrad över att ha blivit nominerad till Nelson Mandela-priset 2026.
Den här nomineringen handlar inte bara om mig – den handlar om alla kvinnor jag har arbetat med, alla berättelser vi har delat och alla händer som tillsammans har skapat något större än oss själva.
💬 Varför jag blev nominerad
För mitt arbete med att skapa mötesplatser där konst, hantverk och mat blir verktyg för dialog, läkning och gemenskap.
För att jag arbetar med kvinnor i exil, bygger broar mellan kulturer och skapar utrymme för röster som annars riskerar att tystas.
🌍 Varför det är viktigt
I en tid av krig, displacement och klimatkris behöver vi nya sätt att mötas.
Jag tror på det kollektiva skapandet – att baka tillsammans, väva tillsammans, dela berättelser – som en form av motstånd, omsorg och framtidstro.
Den här nomineringen är ett erkännande av kraften i det vi gör tillsammans.

"We, the Artists" March welcomes Caroline Hammarskjöld as our Honorary Arts Ambassador!

Caroline Hammarskjöld is the grand niece of Dag Hammarskjöld, the previous Secretary General of the United Nations, and the Founder of Hammarskjöld Inversio. Caroline manages Hammarskjöld’s personal estate and owns the copyright to material such as his collection of poems entitled "Markings" as well as previously unseen material, such as letters, texts, personal photographs and items. Caroline’s aim is to make the Dag Hammarskjöld legacy accessible to all, especially young people – through exhibitions, art projects, publications, lectures, film production and social projects. Her intention is to pass the torch of Dag Hammarskjöld’s ideals and quest for meaning, to the current and future generations. Through collaborations she wants to give the arts and culture communities a greater voice and through his art, wants to engage artists to be a part of the problem solving of the SDG’s. She is an ambassador for art and culture, as well as an advocate for artists rights.

Minns du din allra första dröm? Min dröm var att bli modedesigner. Vid 17 års ålder blev jag antagen till universitetet. Efter bara ett år hyllade universitetets professorer min talang, särskilt min unika färgkänsla, och fastslog att jag var ämnad att bli textilkonstnär. Tyvärr hade jag ingen makt över situationen, och den dröm som en gång låg så nära kändes plötsligt avlägsen.

Kanske är det därför jag nu river itu textilier till remsor och flätar tillsammans med främlingar, som en terapi för att bearbeta mina trauman. Om man inte kan uppnå sin dröm ensam, kan vi lyckas tillsammans?

As a Belarusian, my daughters embrace their Swedish heritage. With their father originating from Russia and their stepmother identifying as Ukrainian, their identities are interwoven against a backdrop of international conflicts and historical complexities. My goal is to nurture their identity and values amidst this complexity.

I'm a mother who, in solidarity with other mothers, weaves collective textile artworks for peace and freedom, while reflecting on war and its legacy in fashion and arts.

The images capture the half way of our crucial journey with Swedish citizens, aiming to unite everyone for peace and freedom. Commencing on February 24th, today we celebrate six months of relentless creativity invested in a joint artwork "Gul&Blå: hela Sverige Flätar" representing the Swedish flag. This initiative was spearheaded by Ukrainian refugee families with mothers and children, after a year in their new home - Sweden.
I have the privilege of curating this project and delivering presentations across Swedish cities and events.
