tribution, marketing, and spreading information on artist grants and funding. Parallel Production aim is to bring artists together to elevate the intricacy of expression, providing resources for projects, but also has a vision to reignite the book as an artistic commodity, by combining different medias and create interesting collaborations that leads to unique publications.

Artist book by Alex Backstrom

“As a child you are never asked to do something, you are told.”

As a child growing up with a chronic disease and numerous hospital visits and tests, imagination plays a huge role in a child’s life. Alex Backstrom, author and model in this non-fictional artist book, talks about her childhood for the first time, engulfing the reader in an absurd normality when treating children and her escape into a parallel world where Saturn became her refuge.

Brief descriptions of fragmented memories from Alex Backstrom’s childhood are complemented with transparent photography, portraying her body immersed with images of NASA’s Cassini mission to Saturn. A fragile but empowering sensations is created as a past and a present transforms into the person Alex Backstrom viewed herself as a child.

Kinks was created September 2015, Stockholm. Each book is hand made using Japanese binding and transparency paper. Limited edition of 100 copies. Made by order.
