Welcome back Anne Z! Anne returned for her 3rd 5-week course in August after 1.5 years away and now she is signed up for her 4th! And she is brining a friend 😍. I’ve had so many AMAZING blasts from the past from people returning after 1 year away to people returning after 6! So cool that you remembered and want to come back! Anne ringlad/coil built this piece. I love this technique. Anne thought about how the glaze would react to the clay surface and added texture to the outside. And I am so glad she kept the irregular edge of the clay rather than cutting the top flat. It makes for a really unique and beautiful kruka/flowerpot. Another “Wow” piece from a member/former student. decorated this slab/kavlad piece using a technique called sgraffito. It’s so well done and the theme of the dove and peace is so timely. There is so much violence and suffering around the world. Fear, war, and conflict benefits few. Peace benefits all. Start from love and an open mind.

Ooooh! Such a beautiful little piece made by former student and current member ! The base is drejad/thrown and the top is slab-built. The bubble glazing turned out awesome! These cups by Julia are so sweet and well made! When I complimented her on them, I was surprised to find she was disappointed with how they turned out. Through teaching, I have found that almost universally (96% :), we are critical of our own pieces because we had an image in our heads of what it ought to look like. Where as others appreciate our pieces for what they ARE. And these ARE great! I’m also terribly self-critical. I wish we could see ourselves through other peoples eyes! Do you want to try ceramics? Gyttja Keramik - Blackeberg student/member projects are more precious to me than my own! If something I made gets broken, it is kind of exciting because that means I get to make it again. If something of yours breaks I’m devastated. This piece by was soooo delicate and fragile! It scared the 💩 out of me! But it survived with only one little break which luckily we were able to repair with a bit of epoxy 😅. What a cool (and scary) piece! Or you can join me for a 5 week course. You’ll learn drejning and hand-building techniques. I’m excited to have so many returning students and even former members who have been on a long hiatus from the studio! I thought that having one of my first 5-week students return was a blast from the past, but now I even have two students from one of my very first, early Corona-era private events, joining me! Life is so funny. I absolutely love that Gyttja Keramik - Blackeberg has created this community for me. I also look forward to meeting the new students and maybe knowing them for years to come as well 😱. Gyttja celebrates its 6th birthday in a few months 🍾!

Amazing ringlad/coil-built piece by F***y Behrer . I wish you could pick it up and feel it. It is large but incredibly thin and so light! F***y has excelled at every technique 😱, but she has found her favorite is ringling. Most people are drawn to ceramics initially by drejning/the wheel. It’s the most famous technique. But many find that they actually prefer hand building (kavling, tumning, ringling, sculpting). I really enjoy both. And that’s why I teach mixed techniques classes for the most part. It allows you to explore the wide possibilities of clay. I’ll be posting my September-start, 5-week classes on Tuesday at 21:00 (link in bio). Come join me next time!

😍 Perfect large bowl made by member Sara L when she returned to classes for the all-wheel intensive training. It is so fun for me to see students wheel ambitions and skills grow in that class. You know her from the amazing monsters that I post. But former Gyttja Keramik - Blackeberg student and now member Brôl keramik brings the same careful hand and attention to detail to every project. Here are some Iron Maiden inspired mugs she made for a friend. The sculptural ex*****on of this font (hard to capture with the camera) is just phenomenal!
