Interesting research into the impact of targeted support in the creative industries- we think Northword is a great example of this.

This guest blog summarises the findings of the first phase of research undertaken by Dr Stephen Knox as part of the Scottish Parliament Academic Fellowship Scheme.

The Swedish partner region Västerbotten is home to the annual storytelling festival arranged by the Nordic Storytelling Center.
This year the festival coincided with the wrapping up of the StoryTagging project and thus offered a perfect opportunity to showcase and talk about the process and outcomes of the project.
The Northword web proved to be a vivid illustration of how the project partners have addressed the theme of combining tradition and new technologies. It opened up for discussions with fellow storylovers that will be continued. This was definitely not the end of finding and bringing stories to life in this organisation!

In addition, the roll-up itself had travelled from the project partner in Finland, over the wild Bothnian sea in the hands of a troubadour. In Västerbotten it was displayed in Sara, a cultural center housed within the tallest wooden hotel building in the world. But that's all another story... ;-)

Storytelling, folklore, dark forests and mythological creatures... what's there not to love in the latest campaign to lure international visitors to Sweden?

The Swedish partner region Västerbotten is glad to see how the art of storytelling is spreading and how folklore is turned into a vivid part of modern communication. A good example of the themes found in the StoryTagging project.

"Approximately 70 percent of Sweden’s land area is covered in forest. Nature has always played a vital role in our Swedish way of life and growing up, we’re taught to appreciate, respect and, to some extent, even fear the powers of nature. For centuries, our deep forests have been home to legendary spirits such as trolls, the huldra and the ‘nattmara’ (nightmare). Today, you’ll find they’re just as present in our crisp air as in the folklore tales they inhabit." The Swedish partnerregion Västerbotten is in many ways an embodiment of this description of Sweden, signed by Visit Sweden.
