There are monsters in the city. Monsters with eyes that are watching and following us. The city’s eyes are machinery, technological extensions: limbs extending from the bodies of the city.
”[…] and this eye f***s the world to make techno-monsters”, writes Donna Haraway about technological tools used in science to enhance our vision. With technological eyes we claim to see everything from nowhere. This eye is thought to be a neutral, objective point of view in contrast to our fleshly, subjective eyes. We should ask ourselves, can technological eyes be neutral?
This exhibition highlights surveillance in the city. It is an exploration of the uncomfortableness of being visible: a narration about eyes, the act of seeing, being seen and the overseer, through images of monster and cyborgs. Ellen and Jens investigate these ideas through photo, video, illustration and sounds.
Jens Milveden: photo, video.
Ellen Sahlberg: illustration, animation, sculpture, sound.
