MEET THE ARTISTIC TEAM BEHIND THE QUEENS' FILES at Bastionen Malmö. Henry Stiglund.
For Theater In-Balance Henry Stiglund has functioned as assisting dramaturg and text consultant for the script of THE QUEENS’ FILES, working on the text adapted by Mariana Araoz and alongside her in his role as Swedish language consultant & dramaturg, helping to creating a new script freely based on Schiller’s original play, MARY STUART.

Henry Stiglund is a well-established, highly respected figure in theatre in Sweden, a working actor audiences recognise, with over 40 roles behind him, including currently performing in "Gengångare" playing Pastor Manders at Malmö Stadsteater; last year 2025 playing Dan Molkom in "Affären Jekyll & Hyde” at Malmö Stadsteatern, to mention but a few.
Henry has been instrumental as director/ theatre pedagogue at Malmö Teaterhögskolan from 1995 on, where he worked adapting plays as a dramaturg, coaching students and successfully running the Master’s and Acting Programmes for many years.

As a long-running colleague of Mariana Araoz at Teaterhögskolan since 2014, Henry has previously collaborated with Mariana on international pedagogical drama projects, in Malmö and in Paris, travelling with Teaterhögksolan Malmö (MTA) student and teacher exchange programmes to Paris with Mariana and to train with Mariana also at the Conservatoire in Paris.

Through his work as a director/ pedagogue at MTA, Henry has many years’ experience worked adapting plays and play texts as a dramaturg. Henry graduated from Teaterhögskolan Malmö originally and has had further training in stage production technique in Italy at SCUOLA DI TEATRO DI BOLOGNA 2020 and at KHIO Oslo, 2024.

We at Theater In-Balance are delighted to have Henry’s experienced eye on board behind the scenes for THE QUEENS’ FILES, which after successful runs and selling out as promenade theatre at Kulturen in Lund, at Malmöhus Slott and at Stenkrossen, now plays in a new, black box version with full lighting, sound and scenography at Bastionen in Lund 30/31st October.

OM PJÄSEN:
Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, satt fängslad under många år på order av Elisabet I, The Virgin Queen, som fruktade att Mary skulle ta tronen ifrån henne. På scen träder även andra legendariska drottningar fram ur historiens skuggor för att vittna om skärningspunkten mellan kön och makt.

En historisk men också samtida berättelse lika relevant då som nu. I denna spännande tolkning, förvandlas scenen till en platsspecifik “brottsutredning” om maktens pris för kvinnor genom historien.

S*x skådespelare på scen. Föreställningen innehåller inslag av objektteater och multidisciplinär, lyrisk scenkonst, text, rörelse.

MEET THE ARTISTIC TEAM behind THE QUEENS' FILES at Bastionen Malmö. Scenographer Marta Cicionesi is an international, freelance, Sweden-based set designer, born in Italy, a graduate of the State Art Institute of Florence, Italy in 1985. A working Member of the Swedish Theatre Guild since 1990, Marta Cicionesi designs sets for theater, dance, opera and has produced more than 100 sets for productions in Sweden, Italy, France, India, Finland and USA.

Marta has collaborated with Director Mariana Araoz since 2007, on up to 20 productions, a long, fruitful, on-going collaboration with what is now Theater In-Balance, stretching from Teater Halland, to Skillinge Teater, Sagohuset Lund and more. Together with Mariana, Marta has created scenography in the US, France, India, Spain and Sweden, notably award-winning “The Seagull” and award winning “Dissection of a Snowfall” at the Festival d’ Avigonon.

Marta specializes in creating sets with strong pictorial suggestions, often through painted backdrops designed for particular light effects and projections – achieving images and spaces with a rich atmospheric spectrum. Her set design has a strong personal style that imbues stage performances with artistic expression. Her theatre creations always grow out of a tight collaboration with light designers and directors.

Marta Cicionesi (scenography), Mariana Araoz (director) and Ilka Haikonen (light design) have been a strong creative theatre team collaborating on performances for years.

With Mariana, Marta also shares an interest in mask, with a particular fascination for Noh theater which also inspires her to achieve the aesthetic simplicity of her sets. In particular,
Marta created the set for Mariana’s LADY MACBETH at Skillinge Teater, Sweden 2022, FORESTEMPEST by Theater in Balance 2023/2024/2025 which played in Malmö, Paris, Copenhagen and Marta provided and created the set requirements for Peter Brook’s THE TEMPEST by Bouffes du Nord last summer when Mariana Araoz invited them to perform in Skillinge Sweden.

Now Marta has designed the scenography for THE QUEENS’ FILES playing in Malmö 30/31 October after sold-out performances at Kulturen i Lund, Stenkrossen and Malmöhus Slott Malmö museum . TICKETS for THE QUEENS' FILES from Kulturcentralen.

MEET THE ARTISTIC TEAM behind THE QUEENS' FILES at Bastionen Malmö.

Ilkka Häikiö is a renowned lighting designer, video designer, and scenographer. Since 1996, he has contributed to more than 100 productions, primarily as a lighting designer, working mainly in Sweden as well as in Denmark, Norway, and Finland. His work has also taken him internationally, touring productions in countries including China, Cuba, and India.

His collaborators and commissioning institutions include Gothenburg City Theatre, Malmö Opera, Malmö City Theatre, Odense Theatre, Teater Ibsen, and Riksteatern, as well as independent companies such as InSite and Teater Sagohuset.
Ilkka is one of three artistic directors of the performance collective Receptor, which works with participatory and immersive forms of performance art.

Ilkka has been awarded working grants from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee on three occasions. These grants have enabled him to establish his own lighting and video studio, providing a space for artistic research and experimentation, where he can develop and explore visual concepts and new approaches for different projects.

Ilkka has previously collaborated on more than 7 productions with our Artistic Director Mariana Araoz, in France, India and Sweden and 2 of these were award-winning productions, The Seagull and Dissection of a Snowfall.

While we are preparing for more performances of THE QUEENS' FILES at Bastionen Malmö end of October, our Artistic Director Mariana Araoz has been teaching her unique In-Balance Method of performance out at Fridhems teaterlinje. A fabulous week once again on stage of sweat, laughter, precision, group work, utter concentration, artistry and rapidly- honing skills - all with the next generation of Sweden's acting talent. Thank you Fridhems folkhögskola. These aspiring actors and young people are an inspiration!

During KULTURNATTEN in Lund, Theater In-Balance will be giving a 1-hour PRESENTATION of / TALK about our work and the In-Balance Method created by Mariana Araoz, with reference to our sell-out stage play and site-specific performance THE QUEENS' FILES which has been playing in Lund/ Malmö this summer 2026.

All are welcome. From 16:00 - 17:00 hrs in Svarta Lådan. The presentation is in English. 🇬🇧
Mariana also speaks fluent French, Spanish and you are welcome to ask questions in Swedish.
