I don't usually make videos like this, but I wanted to show you a place that has fascinated me and stayed with me over the years.
This is Sandby Borg on the island of Öland, Sweden. Around 1,500 years ago, a massacre took place here, and the site was left abandoned. No one returned to bury the dead or reclaim the ringfort. Instead, it was left to slowly collapse, with the victims still lying in its houses and streets.
It's sometimes referred to as Sweden's Iron Age Pompeii.
I've worked with this place as an archaeologist, and although some of you may have heard of Sandby Borg, I thought you might like to see what it actually looks like. So today, I'd like to show you around.
