A little artsy, a little couture, a lot crochet. This bouclé yarn works up into a lovely, teddy fleece-like fabric, and now I can’t think about anything else.

Prep for the crochet course I’m currently running. One of the questions I often get from students is, ”but how do I know which colours will look good together?” I honestly think that creating nice palettes - especially ones that work for you - takes practice. Tons of it. So I get students to pay attention to combinations they like, make little colour cards, and see what emerges over time.

These are my current favourites. Can you tell I’m a little desperate for Spring?

It’s been so long since I played with yarn, kinda just for the heck of it. The stripey swatch is made with bits of leftover Nutiden, and there is no greater joy than tipping out a basket of *my* colours and seeing what happens. I’m tempted to make a simple, boxy cardigan - no maths, no pattern, just fly by the seat of my pants. It’s how I used to do all my crochet!

I will design something properly in the boucle yarn, which is the new Varv by the same people who make Nutiden. It does not behave like any other yarn I’ve ever used though, so right now I just have a little pile swatches that all look the same no matter what stitch I use… So here the fun is in the challenge 😉.

Sometimes simple is best. I use this sweet pattern to teach my garment-making course at Medborgarskolan here in Lund, as it’s full of useful techniques and small but effective details. Short rows, raglan increases, optional shaping, a tiny crab stitch edge - the works. AND it uses up leftovers.

Right now registration for a couple more basic-to-intermediate level courses is still open. I’ll put the link to those in my stories, in case you’re interested and local. We start at the end of February.

A little busy, a little not. Some fun new things, whilst still paying heed to the fact that in this hemisphere at least, the sky is about as dark as the bottom of a pewter cauldron IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY.

Most of 2025 was spent in a cloud of wallpaper remover, brick dust, and paint samples. Now that I’m at least halfway to feeling both settled and set up {why must there be *so* much paperwork?!} in the new studio, however, there is finally a little room to play again. This cream puff of a cowl simply rolled off the hook - simple, soothing, effective. I’m hoping it’ll round off the second half of the Balter Collection nicely {which I’ve only been sitting on for… two years, I think}. See you soon for a test call?
