Happy Santa Lucia for all the Swedish people over the world 😍

yohoooo it's Santa lucia today 😍🥳🤶🫅 🕯

Let's talk about this lovely tradition in My little Sweden

What does midwinter have to do with white gowns and candles? 🕯🕯🫅 It’s Swedish Lucia!

The annual candlelit Lucia procession on 13 December is perhaps one of the more exotic-looking Swedish customs, with girls and boys clad in white full-length gowns singing songs together.
The real candles are now sometimes replaced with battery-powered ones, but there is still a special atmosphere when the lights are dimmed and the sound of the children singing grows as they enter from an adjacent room.

Tradition has it that Lucia is to wear ‘light in her hair’, which in practice means a crown of electric candles in a wreath on her head. Each of her handmaidens carries a candle, too. Parents gather in the dark with their mobile cameras at the ready.
The star boys, who are dressed in white gowns like the handmaidens, carry stars on sticks and have tall paper cones on their heads. The Christmas elves bring up the rear, carrying small lanterns.

Who gets to be Lucia? 😍

There used to be a competition for the role of Lucia – on national TV as well as on a local level in towns and schools all over the country. Local newspapers invited subscribers to vote for one or other of the candidates. Today, no national ‘Lucia of Sweden’ is elected and schools often let chance decide who’s to be Lucia, for example by organising a draw.

Lucia − the bearer of light
Alongside Midsummer, the Lucia celebrations represent one of the foremost cultural traditions in Sweden, with their clear reference to life in the peasant communities of old: darkness and light, cold and warmth.

Lucia song 👧🎷🎤🎼🎹

All Swedes know the standard Lucia song by heart, and everyone can sing it, in or out of tune. On the morning of Lucia Day, the radio plays some rather more expert renderings, by school choirs or the like.
The Lucia celebrations also include gingerbread biscuits and sweet, saffron-flavoured buns (lussekatter) shaped like curled-up cats and with raisin eyes. You eat them with glögg, Swedish mulled wine, or coffee.

I will share with you the lovely lucia song in the next post😍🥰😍

HI Little Sweden comunity today we will talk about Christmas wishes in Sweden🎅

Every year, thousands of letters from children around the world are sent to Santa's Swedish address. And everyone who leaves their address gets a reply! 🎅📬
Most letters to Santa include wish lists, but many also come with a drawing. Some of the writing children have even offered to help with Santa's chores if Christmas gets too hectic. ❤️
This heartwarming tradition began with the Swedish magazine 'Jultomten' in 1891, where children were encouraged to send in their Christmas wishes. Even after the magazine ceased publication, the letters continued to arrive. ✍️
Today, the Swedish postal service company Postnord handles and responds to all letters. 📯 Each year, some of the letters are selected and stored at the Postmuseum in Stockholm, where there are around 1,500 letters archived from the 1890s to the present day. The letters come from all over the world and the Postmuseum has letters saved from some 30 countries, including the USA 🇺🇸, Japan , Mexico 🇲🇽, Kenya 🇰🇪 and Malaysia 🇲🇾.
So what's on the children's wishlists? 📜 Despite the fact that it's been over 130 years since the first list reached Santa, the wishes are pretty much the same. Children today still wish for toys, books and pets. 🧸📚🐰
Would you or someone you know like to send a letter to Santa? 👇
The address is the same as it's always been:

HI Little Sweden comunity today we will talk about the RAPSBLOMMA 🌾🌼

Southern Sweden and in particular Skona district is famous for its vast rapsblomma 🌾🌼 snow flower fields which usually bloom from month 5 to month 7 removes from its seeds canola oil which is an important source of vital fuel that some buses in Sweden work on and this oil is also used in food. 🇸🇪
But this year, the areas grown with these flowers will be less compared to other years due to weather conditions. According to Sydsvenskan, many farmers have planted alternative crops with an estimated deficit of about 20% of this crop during the current year
