Welcome to Jokkmokk, a city north of the Arctic Circle in Arctic Sweden and Sápmi. In the autumn of 2023, we will offer a research-based residence for visual artists working with performance art.

In Jokkmokk, there are the Sami cultural institutions Ájtte Swedish Mountain and Sami Museum, as well as the Sami Education Center/ Sámij åhpadusguovdásj and Sámi Duodji/ Sami handicraft foundation. Despite its small population with 4,900 inhabitants, the municipality has a rich cultural life and many active cultural workers.

During the stay, you as an artist will have the opportunity to meet artists and artisans from the area, but you will also have the opportunity to do research on a specific theme linked to the place.

Soon the textile artist Rosa Tolnov Clausen will be in HaparandaTornio to open a "Weaving kiosk" at the shopping centre Rajalla På Gränsen. Between the 5-11 December, at 12-18 Swedish time (13-19 Finnish time) she will be there with her loom waiting for you to try it.

We are very pleased to welcome the artist Oksana Mishko (on the right) as artist in residence in Haparanda!

Oksana har recently come to Haparanda from Ukraine and she will be artist in residence here for three months. She is a painter and designer and she has already started working on a new project based on the reuse of textile materials.

This artistic residency was made possible thanks to the cooperation between Haparanda stad, Resurscentrum Konst Norrbotten, SWAN - Swedish Artist Residency Network and Iaspis Konstnärsnämnden 🙏

We took our residency artist on a road trip to Jokkmokk.

Jokkmokk is one of the largest municipalities in our region, but only with a population around 5000 people. It’s considered to be the sami centre in Norrbotten. On the way we stopped at in Harads. Arctic bath is a floating spa hotel in the river.

In Jokkmokk we went to the opening of sami artist at Ájtte Museum and did a studio visit to doudji artist Mikael Pirak.

Marko Timlin is a German-Finnish sound artist, installation artist, performer and composer. His artistic work centers on the technical, aesthetic and philosophical development of kinetic sound sculptures, dynamic light installations, performances with self-made sound machines and multimedia theater plays.

Today the artist Andreas Senoner, air at KKV Luleå, came to Haparanda and visited some of its sights. First of all, the rapids of Kukkola and then the town itself. The sound artist Marko Timlin, air at Haparanda, joined us when visiting the beautiful train station.

A full day in Luleå with Andreas Senoner and Marko Timlin, artists in residence respectively at KKV Luleå and Haparanda stad. After a walk in and all around Luleå’s old town, Gammelstad, we visited Norrbottens museum and then the city centre.
