The 38th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition 2019 will start with the online applications for young opera singers in the end of January
More than 70 qualifying rounds worldwide on all continents - final rounds and finals concert in Villach, Austria.
The final rounds of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition, held for 31 years in Vienna, take now place in the most renowned opera and concert houses as well as festivals around the world. In 2013 the city of Amsterdam hosted the first event outside of Austria since its founding, followed by Düsseldorf in 2014, Amsterdam again in 2015, Cape Town in 2016, Moscow in 2017, Jurmala (Latvia) in 2018 and Villach, Carinthia (Austria) in 2019. Plans for subsequent years will take the competition’s final rounds to European cities and overseas.
Isabella Gabor and Holger Bleck, General Managers since 1999, are thrilled about the upcoming perspectives: “Villach is the second largest city in the beautiful state of Carinthia in the south of Austria, and together with the small town Ossiach it is the heart of the Carinthian Summer Music Festival. We are pleased to be guests in this great festival on its 50th anniversary 2019 with the 38th edition of the Final Rounds.”
The 2019 qualifying rounds will be held in more than 70 cities world-wide. The singers continue to be judged by a jury consisting of artistic and casting directors from the world's most prestigious opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera New York, Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, Teatro alla Scala Milano, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Cape Town Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin to name a few.
