Appreciation Friday!

This time it's about the artist Galleri-Verdier

Yet another of my wife's friends, whom she previously made reggae and dancehall music with. Verdier uses many different kind of materials in his art, and these artworks are made with oilsticks. He also does prints and oil paintings on canvases. Cool and crazy abstract style! Check him out.

This first Appreciation Friday is about the Danish artist Anneke Sagn .
It's one of my wife's friends in Denmark who has her very own and unique style. I feel that she is channeling the energies from the ancient north through her artwork.

The Tribe. Acrylic on 70 cm x 50 cm canvas.

This shows the typical appearance of the Maasai Tribe, but a similar appearance and similarity in culture and lifestyle is seen with the Gogo Tribe. Most of my family is Wagogo. A tribe of hunters, animal keepers and farmers. My grandfather on my mom's side was Ngoni, originally a South African tribe known for being farmers and powerful fighters.

I grew up on a farm in a small village. We were 7 children in the family. Typically we would farm sweet potato, maize, beans, rice and pumpkins, among many other kind of crops. All children had their own small piece of land and a responsibility to keep this, and we had to work this piece of land early in the morning before school, and in the evening before dinner. The times of harvest was the really good and happy times, but unfortunately times with no rain or bad harvest led to periods with starvation. I'm grateful we all grew up healthy in spite of the difficult times.

Since early childhood I went hunting with my pack of hunting dogs (they were not the usual European pet dogs), I had between 5 to 7 dogs. We mostly hunted for smaller animals like birds, wild chickens, rabbits and sometimes wild hogs (Pumba from the Lion's King). I also hunted using traps, usually for the smaller birds, and also went fishing in the lakes and rivers, but beware of the crocodiles!

Another painting is soon done. I repeated an abstract painting from last year, but with different colours this time.

It has been Easter so Facebook has rested for a while. We have visited friends in the southern part of Sweden, it's sooo beautiful there!

Look out for my page this weekend and coming week, I have a few finished paintings that I'll show you guys together with some personal history
