✨ Nordic Craft Week Day 4 : Plant dyes ✨

One of the crafts listed on the Living Heritage list that drastically changed my view of both nature and second hand shopping is Natural dyeing 🌈 There is colour to be found basically everywhere! And did you know that the ancient Babylonians already dyed their clothes? It's so inherently human to carry colours...

Increasingly popular, needle binding is my preferred way of making socks, mittens and everything that needs to stand the test of time. It's the perfect craft now that the evenings slow down this time of year.

💚It's Nordic Craft Week : celebrating craft as a cultural heritage 💚
The only way to keep these historical crafts alive is through using it. So this week, every day I'll celebrate one of the 'listed' Swedish crafts that have become a part of my life and my work.

Starting off are these three jars made of birch bark from Härjedalen. No glue was involved in the making of them, it's held together by sewing, braiding and a healthy amount of swearing ;)
I had the luck to learn this intricate , practical and sustainable craft during my time in Härjedalen. It's one of those crafts that beckons me to come back to it one day, but also that intimidates me. It looks so easy... It is not!

Tillsammans bereder vi lin och spinner garn av olika kvaliteter. För den som är intresserad finns det möjlighet att testa att väva med det egna garnet.

Mikro finns för den som vill värma medhavd lunch. Enklare fika finns till försäljning. Har du eget lin kan du ta med det.

🌿✨ The difference between art and craft...✨🌿

I made this little piece as a craft example for my lecture and courses during Medeltidsveckan på Gotland but to my surprise, I could call this art and hang it on my wall... It's very satisfying to look at. Yet again, I'm baffled by how gray these borders are.

Would you call it art? I think the definition these terms will forever elude and surprise me...

☀️Summer is always the craziest time of the year.☀️
I'm teaching a lot, gathering materials, planning for autumn and also trying to renovate a little more of our 80 year old house 🏚️

During these days, it's important to also make time for a little cosy project. Like this little grass basket! 🌿🧺

Now on to the last prep before I leave to teach at Medeltidsveckan. Always a highlight of my year 🏰
