Nina Yamada brings a deep sense of rhythm, history and discovery to every set.

Born and raised in Kamakura, Japan, and now based in London, Nina is a DJ and the founder of Jazzy Sport London — the first international branch of the influential Japanese record label and record store Jazzy Sport.

Shaped by her father’s extensive vinyl collection, Nina began DJing at a young age. After years of digging and listening, she has developed a sound of her own, where deep house meets afrobeat, jazz, Latin, reggae and other groove-driven styles. Her sets move freely between genres, creating an organic, soulful and adventurous dancefloor experience.

Nina has played across Europe and Asia, at renowned clubs and festivals including Berghain Panorama Bar in Berlin and Wonderfruit in Thailand. In the UK, she has also opened for Detroit legend Theo Parrish at We Out Here.

Her “UK Trip Hop” DJ set for My Analog Journal has surpassed 500,000 views and was selected by Mixmag as one of the ten best mixes of 2023. As a producer, Nina brings together deep house, dub and soulful intuition. Her distinctive sound can be heard in a highly anticipated upcoming remix for Wah Wah, while she is also preparing her debut EP on Jazzy Sport London.

After years estranged from his Ainu roots, Oki Kano found his way back to them through music. Following a formative period in New York in the 1980s, he returned to Hokkaido and taught himself to play the tonkori — the five-string lute bound to Ainu culture and his own heritage. He never looked back.

The result is a visionary meeting of Indigenous Ainu music and global vocabularies. Traditional strings hold together a sound alive with dub, funk and bright, jangling tones — just listen to “Yaykatekar Dub (Love Dub)” and you’ll hear the connection immediately. In performance and on record, OKI brings the enduring force of Ainu music, language and tradition into the present.

Acclaimed by international publications including The Guardian, MOJO, The Wire and The Quietus, Tonkori in the Moonlight (2022) is a captivating display of the instrument’s power. Oki’s music carries the weight of ancestry: his father was the renowned Ainu wood sculptor Bikki Sunazawa, and he continues to nurture these connections through production work with Ainu elder singer Umeko Ando. His music is a form of intergenerational magic, played with the tenderness of someone who consciously embraces his languages and knowledge — and is determined to expand and pass them on.

Across OKI’s layered, luminous compositions, a once-outlawed culture enters into dialogue with transnational traditions, from dub to funk. Through this exchange, Ainu knowledge returns with full force — alive, resonant and impossible to erase.

Beverly Glenn-Copeland is a true visionary. A composer, singer, musician and artist whose music has travelled from the intimate world of folk and jazz to electronic, spiritual and deeply futuristic soundscapes.

His cult classic Keyboard Fantasies — originally released in 1986 — has become a landmark of outsider electronic music, rediscovered decades later by a new generation of listeners. Warm synthesizers, luminous melodies and Glenn-Copeland’s unmistakable voice create music that feels simultaneously ancient, futuristic and completely free.

Yesterday at Kinesiska Muren, one stage held three very different registers of truth-telling.
We opened with The Genocide Timeline, a conversation about the collapse of distance, the fiction that time and geography protect us from what's happening in Gaza.
Then the stage shifted registers without shifting stakes. Muslim Shaggan brought five generations of Gwalior Gharana lineage into the room.
And to close the day, 힐금 : Yoin Cho, Yerim Kim and Somin Park turned gayageum, geomungo and haegeum into something cinematic: single plucked strings swelling slowly into tidal waves of sound.
