GöteborgsOperans Danskompani is a contemporary dance company within The Göteborg Opera. The company consists of dancers from 16 different countries - forming the biggest contemporary dance company in the Nordic region. The company works with a multitude of renowned international choreographers, who create commissioned work. Besides 3-4 Main Stage productions a season, the company does site specific and educational work. International touring is an important element of the company's identity.

Tonight we bring two new works on stage at Kuopio Dance Festival! First out, the international premiere of Botis Seva’s Hip-hop infused We Made a Mess! at Olvi Arena.
A bit later in the evening, the curtain goes up for Cold Song by Marcos Morau at Kuopio City Theatre.

In 30 min we open Kuopio Dance Festival’s main program with Hofesh Shechter’s Wild Poetry at Olvi Arena. And this is a first - never before have we performed in a Hockey arena. But when did we ever say no to a challenge! Breaking new ground is what we love doing!

After Wild Poetry, we change venues and move down the block to Kuopio City Theatre. There the festival audience will get to see ima by Sharon Eyal. Two shows, two venues, two different creations. Let’s do this!

GöteborgsOperans Danskompani fortsätter sin turnésäsong. Denna vecka är kompaniet huvudakt vid finska Kuopio Dansfestival – en av Nordens ledande festivaler inom danskonst.

Under fyra dagar framför kompaniet fyra hyllade dansverk, som haft sin världspremiär i Göteborg: Wild poetry av Hofesh Shechter, ima av Sharon Eyal, We made a mess! av Botis Seva och Cold song av Marcos Morau.

Kl. 18.00 går ridån upp för Wild Poetry på Olvi arena, två timmar senare för ima på Kuopio City Theater.

What does “home” really mean?
It’s a question Victor Ketelslegers often asks himself. To pursue his dream of a professional dance career, he left his native Belgium and his passion eventually brought him to Gothenburg.
In this interview, he shares the courage it takes to leave everything behind, the music that has shaped him, and the complex feeling of finding a new home while still missing the old one.

We love having Victor as part of our dance family. Tonight, he’s pulling double duty—performing in both Cold Song and ima at Maison de la Danse in Lyon.

We’re back on stage again at tonight!
Cold Song by Marcos Morau is a unique piece in our repertoire, combining striking visuals with precise, almost otherworldly movement. The dancers appear and disappear within Max Glaenzel Ribas’ magical set, to Ben Meerwein and Alex Röser Vatiché’s icy remix of “Cold Song” an aria from Purcell’s opera King Arthur.

After the tour to Lyon, the next stop for this gem is ! 🇫🇮

Every fibre, every muscle, every body part is at work when we perform Ima by Sharon Eyal. Exemplified here by Frida Dam Seidel’s incredible solo! 🤩 It’s a work that requires absolute physical control, strength and flexibility. With Alon Cohen’s lighting, every detail is brought out and what we do not see is equally important. Watch to the end!

Tonight we perform the first of five shows of ima at in a double bill with Cold Song by Marcos Morau. Be sure not to miss this one if you’re anywhere near Lyon!

We kick of the evening with Marcos Morau’s fascinating Cold Song.

After our recent show in Baden Baden the reviewer from Badische Neueste Nachrichten wrote that:

”For the members of the dance company, this choreography entails high-performance, extreme physical exertion without pause, as the seemingly uncontrolled, wild convulsions demand absolute bodily control.”

After the interval we perform another work that also requires total physical control - Hofesh Shechter’s powerful Wild Poetry!

This was the second half also in Baden Baden. And Badische Neueste Nachrichten wrote that:

“At the highest level of contemporary dance, the Swedish dance company also proved itself in the evening’s second piece, “Wild Poetry” by Hofesh Shechter.”

At 19.30 the curtain goes up in St. Pölten! 💃✨
