Battersea Arts Centre - BAC Event 1: Thursday 10th October

Nowhere: Spaces of confinement, solidarity and freedom

“If not now, when?”

From the political circumstances of Nowhere’s genesis in Egypt, to the creative journey to make it in a world spinning from crisis to crisis. An interrogation of how historical and political events not only shape the narratives we tell but also influence the very process of art-making itself. How does the weight of history bear on the act of creation, and what questions does this raise about the purpose and power of art in times of upheaval?

Hosted by Pelin Basaran, BAC Head of Programming

Nowhere seeks to gently push closed doors and reveal the hidden spaces behind them, inviting the audience to sit and explore together as the narration unfolds.

We're excited to announce 3 post-show conversations for Nowhere at Battersea Arts Centre - BAC , hosted by Yasmin El-Rifae and Pelin Basaran! Panels are curated by our brilliant lead artist Khalid Abdalla in collaboration with the Palestine Festival of Literature

These accompanying post-show events aim to extend that feeling of openness, creating a safe space for us to gather even after the performance ends. Here, we can linger a bit longer in these newly opened spaces and engage in meaningful conversations.

Looking forward to bringing Nowhere to HOME Mcr in October:

Join actor and activist Khalid Abdalla (United 93, The Crown, The Kite Runner) on a surprising journey into his own history.

Set against a cartography of seismic world events, Nowhere is an intricate and playful solo show inspired by Khalid's involvement in the Egyptian revolution of 2011 and his experience of the counter-revolution that followed.

Khalid brings together the personal and the political in an act of anti-biography that asks how we got here and how we find agency amidst the mazes of history.

Presented by Fuel, written and performed by Khalid Abdalla and directed by Omar Elerian, Nowhere arrives at HOME Tue 22 Oct – Sat 26 Oct.
