📣About us, who is The Amber Matter 👇

🎙️Occasionally you might have heard us talking about some whisky maps that we designed, but we imagine not everyone really knows what they actually are.

So we thought we would do a proper introduction and tell you what The Amber Matter is about, and what we actually do ✨

You’ll know us as Tommy & Susan, the whisky bloggers behind 🥃

🔸As well as having a passion for whiskies, we also love all things, art and designs. And in our careers as architects and designers - we also has a sculpture studio called Studio Story , we’ve created many things that’d we’re really proud of ❤️

🎊 In 2021 we began The Amber Matter, a creative studio that designs and make fine whisky art prints. It is the culmination of both our passion in design and whisky 🎊

And in August 2021, we completed a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign that exceeded our goal by 500% for our first collection of work - Islands of Scotland Collection. We’re truly grateful for the support that has continued to this day! 😍

✨Over the course of the last few years, we’ve had the immense pleasure and privilege to visit distilleries and places in Scotland, learning about the stories and history behind some of our favourite producers. We would love to share them with you through The Amber Matter. 😊

The channel will become a place for snippets of interesting facts and quirks about our favourite distilleries, drinks, places. As well as a channel to promote our work 🥃

Have you been to the Isle of Mull?

We’ve heard it’s beautiful out there, with lots of wildlife and colourful houses ❤️

The whiskies aren’t bad either - for example this Ledaig created by that’s been matured in Bordeaux red wine casks is jammy, peaty, full of cooked red fruits 😋🥃

It was wonderful to catch up with some friends and share a few drams. And a pleasant surprise of a heavily peated Jura bottled by the shop! 🥃

Lovely to introduce the prints and the artist behind them to a bunch of wonderful people ☺️♦️

For the Founders, we have received the first samples of the Founders Collection packaging which has also come out well. There are some minor details that need iron out but we're quite impressed by this initial test. 👌

Good Morning / Afternoon / Evening wherever you are in the world! 😊

Another quick update: We have just done our last round of test prints and are really happy with the results! Even though the pictures don't do them justice, we hope you'd agree that they look stunning! ✨✨😍

It was fun choosing the paper type, refining the colours and graphics. We will now proceed to the final print and start fulfilling your awards! 🙏

For the Founders, we have received the first samples of the Founders Collection packaging which has also come out well. There are some minor details that need iron out but we're quite impressed by this initial test.

THANK YOU! ❤️

It's been a week since all of you helped us bring these whisky maps to life, and we truly appreciate your tremendous support - over 5️⃣ times the original amount we had hoped to raise. As designers, it is so exciting to see our work getting so much interest. It fills us with ever more enthusiasm to keep doing what we are doing. 😊

In addition to the massive thank you note, this update is also to give you a brief outline of our next steps. Getting the project successfully funded was only the first hurdle which we absolutely breezed past. The second part of the hard work starts now; these beautiful prints deserve presentation of equally high quality, so here is a brief outline of our upcoming tasks.

🔸Final checks on distillery information and test prints,
🔸Sending out surveys to all backers regarding their choice of prints (Not applied to Founders as you get the full set of prints.)
🔸Packaging Design
🔸IP registrations and clarification

Over the last week, we have begun touching base with various packaging companies and have been testing out packaging design concepts. For obvious reasons, mainly the UK leaving the European Union, and that we are under strict lockdown, the timeline for delivery is still in flux.

We will constantly update you here on Kickstarter, and on our social media accounts (We are on both Facebook and Instagram) every step of the way. You will be the first to know any new development, design and printing process, packaging concepts etc. We are also working on launching our website.

Projects We Love! 😍
First of all thank you so so much to all those who have supported our whisky maps on Kickstarter! And it has been featured on Kickstarter's Projects We Love page ✨😍
With 4 days to go we have exceeded our initial goal by nearly 400%! We are so excited to realise them and we can’t do them without your support 🙏

The Size M Founders Collection has proved really popular and the early bird offer has all been taken up, but we have added a few more that'd be closer to our eventual retail price but still cheaper, so dont leave it too late if you or your friends are still hesitating!

Welcome to The Amber Matter! We are Tommy and Susan, a whisky-loving designer couple based in London and we have combined these two passion together to create a range of stunning, beautiful whisky maps for whisky enthusiasts 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥃🌎 We hope you will support us to bring the distillery maps to life and back our crowdfunding project on Kickstarter! 🥃
From our experience as whisky lovers and conversations with fellow drinkers we realised there is a lack of high-quality whisky art, ones that would enhance the the ambience of a home and drinking experience.

After months of designs, test prints and preparation, we have created a range of distilleries maps for the Scottish Islands using electromagnetic spectrum data analysis (a technique used by the United Nations for their environmental programmes). Our maps are the combination of a scientific scanning of the complex landscape of the Scottish Isles with beautiful infographics to show all current, closed and future distilleries with clarity.

The landscape data is illustrated by the different shades of red that reflects the amount of chlorophyll in the vegetation. It shows the different vegetation types on Islay, the brighter the red, the better the vegetation health 🍁. The dark areas outlines the water 🔹. This, in addition to the geolocation of the distilleries, their operation status, date of closure, and future planned openings, brings together a wealth of information on the maps that is beautifully represented. 🔸

If you like what we do we hope that you will back us! We are hoping to raise more fund to produce more maps for other parts of Scotland and we will also donate part of future proceedings to charity The Ocean Cleanup to support their operation to clear plastic wastes from the oceans. They have developed technologies to extract plastic waste from the waters and intercept them in rivers before they reach the oceans. After testing prototypes in the North Sea they are currently deploying this full-scale.
