The Button Jar is a show about loss. Let’s face it, we’ve all lost something valuable at some point; it’s irksome and inconvenient. But when Liz and Aly’s mother dies, it’s too much to bear. They are heartbroken and their despair manifests itself in ways that catch them completely unaware....

We’re off to the gorgeous The Hen & Chickens Theatre for our tech rehearsal and then our first show tonight at 6pm, as part of Camden Fringe. As always it’s been quite a ride, but the frustrations, worries and doubts have given way to a quiet but very definite excitement. The crones are still strutting their stuff, albeit in SensibleFootwear!

One of the joys of rehearsal is discovering a beat in the action that becomes transformed; it reveals a meaning and poignancy that at first was overlooked. Sandra Hollins and I are so enjoying our journey through the button jar.

Rehearsals for The Button Jar are well under way; we’re slowly breathing life into our characters and finding their physical identity. It’s great getting to know Liz and Aly and to share their stories from ‘The Button Jar’. Can’t wait for Camden Fringe where we are performing at the wonderful The Hen & Chickens Theatre in August.
