📌 Workshop: Face-to-face at Andariya - أندريا with Covid19 regulations!
✨ We are looking for around 20 artists and creatives to join us for a second volume of Sudan Retold, the brainchild of internationally renown artist Khalid Wad Albaih supported by the Goethe-Institut Sudan.
✨ With the first volume of Sudan Retold | https://story.goethe.de/sudan-retold-en #207779 , an illustrated book had been created which intended to provide insights into the diverse facets of the country. Over a period of two years, a team of comic artists, authors, graphic artists, filmmakers, painters and a cook worked on creating the book together with the editors. Through drawings and texts, they show the relationship between history, art and literature. The authors are not primarily concerned with historical details, but with an understanding of historical contexts through artistic representation. To expand on the collection of stories, a second volume will be created.
✨ Who can apply?
Artists, creatives and practitioners knowledgeable in Sudanese history, present or future with an interest in developing decolonial narratives for Sudan Retold 2. You can apply alone or in a team of 2-5 people who will work together. The participants should be committed to the project and join the workshop with the intent to finalise a chapter for the publication. Archeologists, historians and activists are invited as well as other interested Sudanese inside the country. If you are interested to participate from outside Sudan, an online participation would be possible. Please state that in your application. Women and people from outside the urban center are especially encouraged to apply. South Sudanese perspectives are also invited.
✨ How to apply?
Fill in the google form and send it to us. We will get back to you until 20.10.2021. In the application you have to present a draft for a chapter which could be writing, drawing, photography, film making or any other medium that can in its final form be presented in the book and connected website. You should state if you want to work by yourself or are interested in collaborating with another participant for a chapter.
✨ What do we offer?
In a 5-day workshop 01./02./03./04./06.11.2021, hosted by our partner Andariya Khartoum (the event will be COVID compliant) the editors of Sudan Retold Khalid Albaih and Larissa-Diana Fuhrmann will introduce the concept and develop concepts with the participants. In the following weeks the artists will be supervised in finalising their concepts into chapters for the upcoming volume. An initial contract for the participants will state that all rights for the produced works will stay with the artists and once they have finalised their concepts and been selected for the second volume a second contract will state that the rights will be shared with the editors/publisher for the purpose of the book. Depending on the publisher and possible sponsors royalties will be discussed in the process.
