GHOROBAU COMMUNITY: ARULIGO LIVING WATER PROJECT

Praise the Lord for His provision and mercy.
SWIM staff together with the community successfully completed the project.
This included installing a generator, meters of pipes and 10 taps for the village’s water provision.Ten taps are now installed through the community,
No more walking 2km to collect freshwater for households!
The project was officially handed over to the community after completion.
In true Guadalcanal custom, the SWIM team was presented with gifts from the community:
Fruits, vegetables, coconuts and a live pig.
Praise be to God for His provision and to all who contributed to the Compassionate Catalogue. Great work by the SWIM team and the villagers who worked together to make this Living Water available to the community.

On 20 and 21 April 1977 Guadalcanal and the surrounding Solomon Islands was struck by a series of major earthquakes over a 5-hour timeframe. This culminated into a magnitude 7.5 shock. The major impact was felt on the Weather Coast south of Honiara; and caused widespread landslides, damage and more than 34 reported deaths. Several villages were destroyed and the government of the day relocated villagers to safer locations. This is how the Ghorobau community came into being. Currently there are 167 families and more than 600 villagers. 6 Families were relocated to and settled into what is today known as the village of Aruligo within the larger Ghorobau community. There is only 1 surviving settler from the original 6 families.
The village has an old failed solar water system and as such villagers must daily walk 2km to get water from a stream for all domestic use. SWIM was approached by the village for assistance under the SWIM Community Living Water Project. Funding for Community Living Water Projects are received from donations to the Compassionate Catalogue – Christian Reformed Churches of Australia and New Zealand. Praise the Lord for joyful givers.

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Acts 20:35
