Known as the 'Tree of Life', the date palm holds an undeniable significance in Arabic culture. In , and all of Saudi Arabia, dates are more than just a fruit—they symbolise the deep-rooted historical connection between the land, its people and their culture.

Evidence of this age-old bond is found in inscriptions within the ancient kingdom of , illustrating the integral role of date palms in religious ceremonies and agricultural practices.
Beyond supplying people with sustenance, date palms serve multifaceted purposes, providing materials for construction, household products and even water management systems, reflecting their enduring importance in everyday life.

تحظى نخلة التمر، والتي تُوصف بأنها "شجرة الحياة" بمكانة كبيرة في الثقافة العربية؛ حيث تتجاوز التمور في #العلا وفي جميع أنحاء المملكة كونها مجرد فاكهة، لتتحول إلى رمز للعلاقة التاريخية العميقة بين الأرض والثقافة والسكان.

وقد عُثر على أدلة هذا الارتباط القديم في نقوش مملكة دادان القديمة، والتي رصدت دور النخيل في الاحتفالات الدينية والممارسات الزراعية.

وفضلًا عن كونها مصدرًا لتوفير سبل العيش للناس، فإن أشجار النخيل كان لها استخدامات عديدة، حيث استُخدمت في مواد البناء، والمنتجات المنزلية، وحتى أنظمة إدارة المياه.

Following on 10 Feb, campaign signals renewed hope for this critically endangered species.

Zainab Al AlMubarak, a caretaker for the creature, explains the significance in raising awareness and fostering community unity in .

“It is part of AlUla’s culture and nature to have the Arabian Leopard in it,” Zainab says. And this is true; the Big Cat symbolises pride and power for Saudi Arabia and the broader Arabian Peninsula.

Looking toward the future, she dreams of seeing the Big Cats thriving in AlUla’s natural habitat without human intervention.

توضِّح "زينب المبارك" أول ناشطة سعودية في مجال الحفاظ على البيئة، والتي تهتم بشكل خاص برعاية ، أهمية هذا الأسبوع في تعزيز مستوى الوعي المجتمعي في #العلا بهذه القضية، وتؤكد على حلمها برؤية هذه القطط الكبيرة تزدهر مرة أخرى في بيئتها الطبيعية، حيث تَعتبر أن "النمر العربي أحد الرموز الثقافية والطبيعية في العلا، وشبه الجزيرة العربية بشكل عام".

Decades of inadequate awareness and protection, human persecution, depletion of prey and habitat loss led the International Union for Conservation of Nature to list the as Critically Endangered.
Committed to the cause, the RCU is actively safeguarding this species of Big Cat, aiming for its eventual reintroduction into its natural habitat.
Remarkably, the RCU’s Conservation Breeding Centre in Taif witnessed the birth of seven healthy Arabian Leopard cubs in 2023, nearly doubling the leopard count since 2020 to a total of 27.

أدت عقود من الصيد الجائر، وقلة الوعي البيئي، واستنزاف الطرائد، وفقدان الموائل، إلى تصنيف "الاتحاد الدولي لحفظ الطبيعة" للنمر العربي باعتباره من أكثر الأنواع تعرضًا لخطر الانقراض

واستمرارًا لجهودها في حماية النُظم البيئية تعمل "الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العلا" على حماية النمور العربية بهدف إعادة توطينها في بيئتها الطبيعية.

وقد شهد "مركز إكثار النمر العربي" في الطائف ولادة 7 أشبال بحالة جيدة في عام 2023، وهو ما أدى إلى مضاعفة عدد النمور العربية تقريبًا منذ عام 2020 إلى إجمالي 27 نمرًا.
