Ubumuntu Arts Festival

Ubumuntu Arts Festival One world, One problem, One solution. Ubumuntu Arts Festival is an art centric festival inspired by and created for the sake of humanity.

Art has manifested itself world over as an efficient form of communicating, expressing opinions, airing issues and sharing values about all aspects of life that affect humanity. We are convinced that art as a forum for communication, expression, reflection, innovation and creativity is a key motor for social change. The word Ubumuntu can be defined as „Being Human“. Our festival aims at creating a

n avenue where people from different walks of life can come together and speak to each other in the language of Art. As Desmond Tutu has said “My humanity is bound together in yours, for we can only be human together.” His profound words have been the inspiration behind the festival slogan: „I am because you are, you are because I am: we are human together“. The festival was first held in 2015 and happens annually following the last week of the 100 days commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. It is held at the outdoor amphitheater of the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre and brings different artists from around the world to convene in Kigali Rwanda. Festival activities include but are not limited to performances, workshops, panels and genocide memorial site visits. The festival is free and open to everybody and therefore relies on donations and sponsors for financial support. ( Ubumuntu is a kinyarwanda word for humanity)

A powerful and reflective message from our founder on the final day of this year’s festival.

A strong reminder of who we are, what we carry, and why we create. In pain, there is power, and through it, we rise, connect, and transform.

This year’s would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors and partners.

Thank you for believing in the power of art to inspire change, foster dialogue, and build bridges across cultures. Your commitment helped us create a space where stories could be shared, hearts could open, and humanity could shine.

As we close the curtains on this year's , we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who showed up!

From the stage managers to the videographers, choreographers, photographers, performers, volunteers, partners, and our incredible audience, you each played a part in making this festival unforgettable.

Ubumuntu matters because it reminds us of our shared humanity. Through art, we confront pain, celebrate resilience, and imagine new ways of being together. In a world that often forgets to listen, this festival gives voice to the unheard and space to heal.

Thank you for being part of the journey. See you in 2026.

Ariel Rivka Dance (USA) moved us with What You Want, a powerful reflection on identity, agency, and self-discovery.

Told through intimate movement, it’s a universal story of clarity and acceptance in a noisy world.

We are the origin. We are the source. We speak in many languages, but the tongue is one.

That was a riveting performance dubbed 'Badges of Honour,' from artists in Rwanda and Uganda. The performance has earned a well-deserved standing ovation.

That was DEEP!

The contrast between the dreams that drive us and the doubts that
plague us.

Ladies and gentlemen, Joseph Ssali (@
j__ssali) & Mashirika from Rwanda () have just graced us with ‘Fragility,’ a deep art performance that reflects a challenging journey artists especially dancers go through to bring their dreams to reality.
