St. Petersburg Art Residency

St. Petersburg Art Residency The International Residency Program invites artists and art researches to work in St. Petersburg and Petersburg, Russia. We also accept art researches. Petersburg.

The International Residency Program at the art centre “Pushkinskaya-10” was founded in 2012 in the oldest independent cultural centre in St. The residency is located in the central district of the city and provides potential resident-artists with both working and living spaces. However, resident artists are not confined to a single studio space. We believe that all of our artists are members of ou

r community, free to use all of the facilities on the art centre’s grounds, such as: the library, dance and performance practice space, sound recording studio, presentation and exhibition spaces and others. The art centre is also home to a museum, café and galleries. The International Residency Program is open to individual artists as well as to artistic groups working in all fields of contemporary art. We accept artists who work in various disciplines such as sculpture, visual art, new media, filmmaking and so forth. While the disciplines are unlimited, there is one main condition for participating in our residency program: an interesting project idea and the desire to work in a new cultural space. Since our Residency’s founding we have authors from South America, Asia and Europe. Each artist has entered our community with his or her own cultural background, artistic training and world-views. Though there is no formal social component to our program, we hope that our resident-artists are able to share their experiences as well as learn about alternative and underground art in Russia. However, we also encourage resident artists to explore the world-renowned galleries, museums, theaters, concert halls and ballets in St. Our city is uniquely known as the “cultural capitol” of Russia and it is worth exploring for both inspiration and leisure.

Inviting friends and colleagues to gather around a dinner table and discuss themes shaping our current practice—this is what we’ve been doing as part of our ongoing project, “Hybrid Café.” Its newest issue, entitled “Recalculating Route,” was launched last October, setting up a long table with one end in St. Petersburg at the Pushkinskaya-10 art center and the other in the Gleis70 residency in Zürich. The first out of three dinner talk addressed the role of art residencies as safe spaces. Artists Anastasia Bogomolova, Barbara Bietenholz, and Nicole Henning sparked our discussion, which lasted several hours and brought to light many important issues from the perspectives of artists, curators, and residency programs. The menu for the evening was developed by hosts Anastasia Patsey and Tanja Trampe and offered a curious combination of typical Russian starters like pickled cucumbers and mushrooms served with potatoes, onion, dill, and raw sunflower oil, along with two soups typically cooked during the fall season in Switzerland: a pumpkin soup with red cabbage inspired by a Zürich-based chef and a chestnut soup. Chestnuts were also offered as a dessert along with traditional meringues. Next time we will meet in February – Priyatnogo appetita! Guten Appetit! Enjoy your meal! 🍽

Excited to share photos from the opening of the RE:VIEW exhibition we’ve opened in January! The show is up until March 10th.

Featuring works by artists: Valentina Andreeva, Lilia Bakanova, Vitaly Diventsov, Anna Lyubimova, Ilia SymphoCat.
Curated by Anastasia Patsey

The RE: VIEW project invites visitors to explore new ways of interacting with art. The works in the exhibition can be perceived through diverse channels: sight, touch, hearing, and smell. The exposition consists of two installations in different parts of the space. The project by Valentina Andreeva and Lilia Bakanova involves interaction through sensory experience: guests can look for treasures and stories hidden by the artists in the sand and then retreat into a silk cocoon to reflect on their impressions. The installation by artist Anna Lyubimova and sound artist Vitaly Diventsov, created in cooperation with composer Ilia SymphoCat, invites into a labyrinth where the audience will experience an audio-visual immersion into the history of female body archetypes. The public program of the exhibition includes nonverbal mediations, audio commentary walks and workshops aiming to broaden the idea of what an encounter with art in a contemporary museum can be like.

We also thank our accessibility team — Marina Abadzheva and Alena Ageeva from the Bureau of Inclusive Communications “+1” 🙏

Long time no see 👋 We’re glad to be back after a break and introduce our new project – RE:VIEW. It is a US-Russian cooperation designed to unite art professionals working in the field of inclusion and accessibility. Together we’d like to explore how art museums can make their environments and programming more accessible – both for people with disabilities and other groups of visitors.

Last week we started our workshop series with an inspiring session with Nicole Belolan and Алёна Лёвина.

The project activities will also include public events, collaborations with contemporary artists, exhibitions, and more.

Stay tuned ✨
