Demiryolu Hikâyeleri, Şubat 2006’da Sirkeci–Halkalı hattında başlamıştı, hatta ilk çekimlere kadim dost ile başlamıştık. O günlerde tren yalnızca İstanbul’un banliyölerinde yol alıyordu. Zamanla raylar genişledi; Türkiye’nin dışına taştı. Kafkaslar’da dağların arasından geçti, Ukrayna ovalarında ağırlaştı, Rusya’da genişledi. Sibirya kışında pus ve kar içinde yol uzadı, sessizlik çoğaldı. Kazakistan bozkırlarında yön değiştirdi; sonra Japonya’da düzenli bir ritme, Tayland’da tropik bir karmaşaya karıştı.
Bu bir varış hikâyesi değil. Yol hâlâ sürüyor ve muhtemelen yıllar alacak. Ama demiryolları gibi, bu çalışmanın da anlamı hızda değil; beklemelerde, aktarmalarda ve rayların kenarında biriken hikâyelerde saklı.

Railway Stories began in February 2006 on the Sirkeci–Halkalı line; in fact, the very first photographs were taken together with my longtime friend . In those early days, the train moved only through Istanbul’s suburban edges. Over time, the rails widened and the journey spilled beyond Turkey’s borders. It threaded its way through the Caucasus mountains, slowed across the plains of Ukraine, and expanded in Russia. In the Siberian winter, the road stretched on through fog and haze, silence growing deeper. Across the steppes of Kazakhstan it changed direction; later, in Japan, it settled into a measured rhythm, and in Thailand, into a tropical complexity.
This is not a story of arrival. The journey continues and will likely take years. Yet, as with railways themselves, the meaning of this work is not found in speed, but in the pauses, the transfers, and in the stories that gather along the edges of the tracks.
