Circorama

Circorama Circorama movie theater, all-Russia exhibition centre, E. Goldovsky, Central Documentary Film Studio Goldovsky.

The cinema-theater «Circular panorama of the all-Russia exhibition centre» is the unique functional monument of technology of 1950-1970 years. The theater was designed and built in 1959 by a group of Soviet engineers under the direction of Professor of RSIC Dr.Sci.Tech E. It was intended to demonstrate on the ring-shaped screen (11 screens precisely) movies, made with special "shooting machine",

which was composed of 11 cameras located in a circle. Developed by Soviet engineers, this technology has allowed achieving “maximum expressiveness effect of presence”. The cinema was closed for a short reconstruction in 1965-1966 and in 1988-1990, and now continues to demonstrate 7 surviving travel films, made specifically for the "panoramic view" on the Central Documentary Film Studio from 1961 to 1993. «Circular panorama» provides viewers with «effect of presence» in places, that over the past 20-50 years took quite a different view, allows observing the day-to-day existence of people, whose way of life over the years has changed beyond recognition. The Baikal-Amur railway, the work of the geological parties, the first skiers in the Caucasus, the streets of cities without billboards. Manual tuning of analog equipment in the course of the sessions, original celluloid color film and analogue 9-channel audio intensify the sense of time travel.
