On being waterproof: What touches our skin also touches our brain. The fabric, people, and elements we have near us matter. For people who are particularly sensitive, born or made, this is especially important.
Skin psychology links our physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. Skin is the fastest growing organ, an incredible, waterproof healer. Think blushing, shivering, sweating, inflammation. A barrier and communicator, if you really look and listen.
I was told that when someone suffers a severe burn, even a gentle breeze is overwhelming. It makes sense, we have an incredible amount of nerve endings on the surface of our body. After the invisible internal injury of trauma, our nervous system can sometimes be the same.
Water is a favourite element for humans. We build communities and civilisations around it. Water puts the sky on the ground for us to witness and submerge ourselves. In this way it heals and humbles.
The current resurgence of lido culture is not random. We need access to blue space, just as we always have. For our tough and soft skin.
