V.... Form very, very... Extaordinary!!!
The last minute details of the 2021 at the National Art Museum in Timișoara.
Let's meet this evening at 18:00 online or in person to enjoy this beautiful event!
The exhibition is presented at the National Museum of Art Timisoara between 19.11- 15.12.2021.
The event marks the second edition of the Balkan Art Festival, being organised with the Museum of Folk and Ethnological Art of Macedonia and Thrace in Thessaloniki, the place that hosted in 2021 exhibition "Passages".
The peculiarity of the event in Timișoara is the living relationship between the emerging artworks of the invited artists and the heritage exhibits of the museum, which is revealed to the public for the first time.
The experience proposed by the exposition focuses on the direct experience of artists and the capacity for ritualization that contemporary art has.
A rite of passage is a ceremony or ritual that occurs when an individual leaves a status (social, family, spiritual) to enter another. In cultural anthropology, the term is the anglicization of "rite of passage", a French term coined by ethnographer Arnold van Gennep in his work "The Rites of Passage" (1909).
These ritual manifestations are important for individuals and for societies. What is the relationship between the classical form of rite and the new types of rituals that do not serve to meet the spatial, statutory, economic, ecological or health challenges that most often describe the transcendent period of our world?
Extending the experience of the “rite of passage”, we will find connections with much wider fields of knowledge than art, anthropology and ethnology, which enrich the methods of manifestation and creation of contemporary man.
The purpose of this exhibition is to study and exhibit how Balkan artists relate to essential events, through ritualization and pseudo-ritualization, phenomena that have powerful cultural implications.
Organized in partnership with the National Museum of Art Timișoara, the exhibition also includes a series of objects from the Decorative Art collection of the museum, which, on this occasion, are brought, mostly for the first time, from the warehouse, to the spotlight.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on 19.11.2021 at 18:00 in the rooms dedicated to temporary exhibitions on the 2nd floor of the Baroque Palace.
