Pothos: One of the Most Popular Houseplants in Fishkeeping
Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) is a favorite among aquarium keepers for good reason. It’s hardy, grows relatively quickly, and can develop an extensive root system when grown with its roots in aquarium water.
As the plant grows, those roots can take up dissolved nutrients—particularly nitrogen compounds such as nitrate—while the leaves and vines grow above the aquarium. This can complement your biological filtration and help with nutrient management.
But remember: pothos doesn't replace proper filtration or regular water changes. Think of it as another useful component of a well-maintained aquarium ecosystem.
Do you already have pothos growing on your aquarium? What has your experience been with it?
