Modelatul lutului este cea mai straveche indeletnicire a omului, la inceput acesta fiind folosit la constructia caselor, a vaselor pentru pastrarea hranei {omul preistoric observand ca o urma de copita lasata de un animal intr-o zona argiloasa poate sa retina apa de ploaie mai multe zile la rand, a realizat cat este de benefic acel pamant(Argila), acesta fiind startul in confectionarea vaselor, iar mai apoi contruirea caselor} . Ulterior modelatul lutului a devenit arta pentru bucuria sufletului.
