VÂNĂ

VÂNĂ Hi there, we are Vână Animation Studio and we make animated stories (that) move . We birth ideas, we write the stories, we direct and produce them.

Early this summer, we took a small trip to heritage-rich New Orleans, Louisiana without leaving the studio.

Sarah Maycock’s beautiful, very detailed (and very large :D) painting of , a new hotel opening this autumn in the Garden District, took us there.

Since we were already there, we started snooping around this centuries old neighbourhood. The house dates back to 1858 and sits right in the middle of all the Garden District goodness: grand old mansions, giant oak trees, lush private gardens and enough history to send you down a very deep Google rabbit hole.

Sarah had already packed all of that into the painting.

Our job was basically to make it come alive enhancing the magic — revealing the house, the greenery and all the tiny details bit by bit.

Less “look what we added” and more “look what was hiding in there.” kind of project, which we loved.

This short animation series we created for Excedent, written by TVC, could easily read as a bittersweet comedy sketch.
A mix of animation techniques was our approach for a mix of emotions when tooth problems kick in.
The misfortunes of ... (complete the sentence)?

Entrepreneurship, not the easiest jungle to juggle :D
Hygia is making things easier for the community, each tool at a time.
So their animations, which we had the pleasure of creating, breathe the same ethos - a friendlier and more characterful way of navigating it all.

Here’s one of the three animations, created together with scriptwriter-director Cristian Pascariu.
Big up for all the small businesses in here. Keep 🏀_ing!

When we first met this guy, 7 years ago, he was already 3 years in the job, and a different character. We were entrusted with reshaping him and bringing to life what became his unmistakable personality - a character design we would perfect over years, if you think about it.
Flacarila, code name that kinda became his official name, is the revolutionary summer character that comes along with the summer heat, melting away prices in the Orange e-shop.

Over the years, he became a symbol.

Working closely with the team, we had Flacarila go through all sorts of adventures, even travel to space and back. Each year, he would provoke fun stories and new animated series that would offer anyone watching an easy-breezy fun moment. That was his mission.

And that’s probably why he’s a guy people know and remember - he’s Flacarila, the Orange summer guy. You don’t need to see the logo to know it’s him. He’s the equivalent of a fun story every summer, a cool escape moment.

For years in a row, we enlarged his universe and enriched the experiences - and here’s a look over some of them, Flacarila approved.

Kids don't think outside the box. Because they don't even see the box. There's no box for them.
This one's for kids and their summer holidays, where we hope they'll practice the beautiful habit of exploring an idea simply because it's fun.

This reel brings together animations made by kids, written by kids, inspired by their stories, or created for them by brands that want to celebrate kids.
Different projects, different styles, same spirit: imagination, play and quirks.

We've had the privilege of working with and for children on some of these projects over the years: RADAR New Media Art Lidl Romania Carrefour Kinder Conservation Carpathia Zeppelin XD

Imaginary holidays deserve much more credit.

They require zero budget.

You can go wherever you want.

And, without them, you’d probably have less inspiration for the real ones.

We used this analogy to tell you about visual exploration outside tasks and briefs.
Sometimes it’s good to wander a little. Draw something you’d never get to draw for a client. Animate something out of curiosity. Try a style that probably won’t fit any current project.

No pressure to get it right. No deadline chasing you from behind.

Funny enough, that’s often where some of the most useful ideas come from later.

Illustration part of an exercise of visual exploration and writing inside our studio.

Adèle, our colleague animator, lets you in on the micro story of the factory & the tractor. It’s a piece we all loved so we zoomed in on it.

It has a good pace, a good ease in and ease out, the right speed for transition. All these make it feel natural and dynamic.

And it conveys a certain confidence for the brand itself.

This is a tiny extract from our explainer animation series for , a trusted Romanian consultancy and support services for businesses.
