Open Doors: The Body Image Method / Repertoire Lab #1

Join us for the presentation of Tangaj Collective’s spring repertoire laboratory of The Body Image Method, facilitated by choreographers Simona Deaconescu and Simona Dabija
Over six days of workshop, the participants have explored The Body Image Method, a movement practice currently being developed within the artistic collective. The presentation offers an insight into this shared process of experimentation, embodiment, and choreographic inquiry. The laboratory brings together international and Romanian dance artists, a group shaped by diverse movement backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.

At the end of our filming residency, we met Marlene who shared with us her knowledge of ancestral medicine and the way it continues to guide her everyday life, being in a constant interconnection with nature.
During our conversation, she spoke about guayusa ceremonies, which begin before dawn and create a space for communication, dreams and collective reflection - as one of the most important moments that keep families together, where one shares dreams, projects, ideas or problems in order to find solutions together.
She taught us about plant medicines used for physical pain, stomach ailments, and fever, and how her wellbeing in old age comes from living in connection with her ancestors and with Pacha Mama, and through a constant process of thinking and planning ahead.
Together with her son Roberto, she chose tourism as a way of compartir, to share this knowledge with others.

Jessica moved to Sacha Wasi from another city and slowly found her place within the community by spending time with the other women, sharing stories, cooking, and making crafts together.
We mostly talked with her about cooking and food. She often cooks maito de tilapia, a local dish. She told us how important it is for her to have a clear daily rhythm, something that helps her balance both work and family life.
Her dream was to study working with children, while also preserving and learning more about traditional plant medicine practices, keeping a connection between education and ancestral knowledge. Like most women here, Jessica lives in a unión libre, a choice that allows her the freedom to understand her relationship with her partner without the pressure of marriage. She reflected on how times have changed for women here and in other communities alike: while in the past marriages were arranged from a very young age, today women can choose their partners later in life.

We also met Aide, from the community of Sacha Wasi. She works mostly with the land, in the chakras and is also an artisan. For her, a woman is like “Pacha Mama” (Mother Earth).
One of her names, Wantu, refers to a medicinal plant, (Cantua buxifolia), which helps people receive energy and good vibes.
During the interview, she taught us that each plant has its own calendar for planting and care. She also shared how she divides her time between working in the chakras and taking care of the youngest of her five children, and how, in order to protect her body before going to the chakras, she drinks guayusa, an Amazonian plant-based drink that offers her energy and nourishes her body and her mind.

For our first interview here, in Ecuador, for „Women at Work — Crossroads, Rhythms, and Continuities”, we visited Carol and discovered her story: she’s an artisan, a football player, a mother, a daughter, and above all, part of the Sacha Wasi community and of the Amazonian jungle.

She shared with us the way in which she was taught to make jewelleries when she was ten years old and how this became one of her main jobs and a way of supporting her family.

Besides this,, she enjoys playing football with her friends, listening to music and doing construction work.

We’re in .official testing what it actually means to film here, production in really humid conditions, deep into the amazonian jungle.
We’re editing the interview questions as we go, keeping the same thread of the project, women - work - body, but letting the local context shape the conversation. Things move a bit differently here, rhythm depends on the weather, on decisions within the community, on touristic opportunities, on what the day brings.
So we’re learning to adapt, we listen, we plan, we plan again and we keep listening.

These days we’re in Ecuador, where we’re continuing the open video archive Women at Work — Crossroads, Rhythms, and Continuities. First stop: Quito. Next: Sacha Wasi, deep in the Amazon.

On April 13, Universidad San Francisco de Quito became a temporary meeting point: and opened the process and talked about the importance of sharing personal stories told by women from Latin America and Eastern Europe in an academic context and they talked about work, choreography and, most of all, they touched on what it means to connect work, women, economy and culture through art.

The presentation explored technical and conceptual decisions in the working process, as well as research methodologies and curatorial choices in presenting and sharing the work with the public.

Avem locuri în echipă pentru doi tineri la început de drum care vor să vadă cm arată munca de producător într-un proiect de dans contemporan cu dimensiune internațională - din interior, cu tot ce înseamnă ritm, organizare, oameni și decizii.
Programul e gândit ca un proces de lucru, nu ca un internship formal: intri direct în echipă, te implici în organizare pentru turnee, rezidențe și ateliere, dar și în comunicare, logistică și coordonare, în timp ce înțelegi cm se construiește un proiect cap-coadă.

Vei lucra alături de Imola Marton (dramaturgă & manager cultural – M Studio, Flow Festival) și Simona Deaconescu (coregrafă & fondatoare Tangaj Collective) și vei avea acces real la modul în care se gândesc și se duc mai departe proiectele în zona culturală independentă.

✮⋆˙ Proiectul include turnee în Praga, Cluj-Napoca și Sfântu Gheorghe, o rezidență internațională în Franța, un laborator interdisciplinar la Chișinău și două ateliere de repertoriu în București.

Mai puține puncte fixe, mai multă mișcare. Mai puțin control, mai multă fluiditate.
Între 23 și 25 martie, a susținut un workshop intensiv de 3 zile cu studenții din anul IV Actorie de la Facultatea de Teatru din cadrul UBB Cluj-Napoca, în grupa coordonată de Mihai Filip Odangiu.
Workshopul și-a propus să testeze ce tip de limbaj al mișcării poate apărea atunci când corpul încetează să mai fie văzut ca un punct fix, coerent sau disciplinat și începe să devină mai degrabă un sistem în transformare: instabil, speculativ, greu de oprit.
Inspirat de sisteme de inteligență distribuită, atelierul a propus un corp care nu funcționează ca un sistem închis, ci ca un răspuns continuu la mediul său. În cadrul procesului de lucru, studenții au explorat tehnici de respirație, mișcare volumetrică și modulare a vitezei, permițând corpurilor să se deformeze, să se plieze, să se extindă și să se reorganizeze în timp.
