After several years of planning, we’re happy to announce the launch of our Artist Residency Program at Atelierele Scânteia.

Two studios of approximately 50 sqm each, with private kitchenettes and a shared bathroom, will host artists for one-month residencies in Bucharest.

Our first resident artists are arriving from Dubai, with artists from other countries and cities across Romania to follow.

⭐️ Open Call Results Announcement

We’re happy to announce that Shama Alsuwaidi & Andrew Riad have been selected to take part in the Artists Residency organised by us, in partnership with Bayt AlMamzar

Shama Alsuwaidi (1999) is an Emirati multidisciplinary artist and writer based in Abu Dhabi. Her practice engages the subconscious mind and dream states through research, recorded entries, and the ongoing documentation of dreams. These processes unfold through material investigation, resulting in tactile forms that navigate themes of transience and forced evolution, spying on the conversation that happens between her subconscious and lucid mind.

Andrew Riad (b. 2000, Cairo) is a Coptic Nubian Egyptian multidisciplinary artist and poet exploring the intersection of poetry, research, performance, and gesture. He works with archives, text, moving and still images, and soundscapes to undo a monolithic history and propose a [re]imagined and silenced history revealing ostracized narratives as original sources of truth and fact. His projects imbue an emancipatory framework and understanding of language, of archive, and in that, gestures towards an opportunity for play and imagination to build towards what he calls a futurenarrative. For him, language is the experience of sound and ritual; of symbol and gesture and as such, is a site for resurrection, imagination, and [re]integration.

More details about their residency experience soon.

✨ Open Call Results ✨

For the Open Call made in collaboration with Pragovka Gallery , we are delighted to announce that Ioana Gheorghiu has been selected for our July residency in Prague.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who applied. Receiving 164 applications from artists working across such diverse practices and contexts was both inspiring and incredibly challenging. The quality and thoughtfulness of the proposals made the selection process a difficult one, and we are deeply grateful for the time, trust, and effort that each applicant invested in their submission.

Due to the large number of applications and emails we have received, it has been difficult to reply to everyone individually. We kindly ask for your understanding and hope to gradually get back to as many applicants as possible.

Congratulations to , and thank you once again to everyone who applied. We are truly encouraged by the enthusiasm this open call generated and look forward to creating more opportunities for collaboration in the future.

Ioana Gheorghiu uses text and instruments from visual arts to operate within the strata of language, sound and body. In her visual art practice, she has a conceptual, slow and rhizomatic approach, intertwining a speculative practice with long term processes, experiments, and documentation.
