🦩🇦🇱My biggest wish had always been to see flamingos in the wild, to watch them, observe their movements, and simply be present in their world.
At the same time, for years I have had the same recurring nightmare: white flamingos running in panic along a beach they no longer recognize, searching for food in a place that no longer feels like home.
Then I came to Albania as part of the amazing bird-ringing and artistic residency organized by . There, I discovered that paradise exists. In the Vjosa–Narta Lagoon, I saw so many flamingos. A living, fragile, extraordinary ecosystem where migratory birds find refuge and where nature still thrives.
Today, that paradise is under threat. ‼️⚠️‼️
🤯🤬‼️⚠️The luxury resort developments linked to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner on Albania’s coast have sparked widespread concern among environmentalists, scientists and local communities. Many fear that large-scale tourism projects could damage one of the country’s most important coastal ecosystems and the habitats that flamingos and countless other species depend on.
The flamingo has become a symbol of resistance. What people are calling the “Flamingo Revolution” is about more than protecting a bird. It is about defending wetlands, biodiversity, and the idea that some places are too precious to sacrifice for private luxury developments.
When I saw the flamingos of Vjosa–Narta, I felt that a lifelong dream had come true. Now I can only hope that I will never witness that dream becoming my nightmare. Please, create, post, talk about it and express your solidarity with Albania. This is not only a problem of corruption or environmental destruction in Albania. It is our shared problem. We, all the species are sharing the same life!
