With gratitude and joy, I am pleased to share the publication of my review in Actualitatea Muzicală magazine (No. 2/2026), dedicated to the event In the Light of Remembrance – Music, Memory, and Conscience, held at the Romanian Athenaeum on the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust.

My sincere congratulations to the “Iancu Țucărman” Cultural Association and to Maria Popa for organizing a project of genuine cultural and human significance, demonstrating that music can become an authentic space for remembrance, reflection, and dialogue.

My heartfelt congratulations and deepest appreciation also go to the performers, Mihaela Manea (piano) and Arnold Plankensteiner (clarinet), who brought this message to life through outstanding performances of works by Domenico Scarlatti, Sergei Prokofiev, Franz Liszt, and Ulpiu Vlad.

A passage that beautifully captures the atmosphere of the evening and that will remain with me:

“The event In the Light of Remembrance established itself not only as a concert, but also as a genuine act of conscience. Together, the music, the spoken word, and the presence of the audience created a living space of memory, where art became a form of responsibility, commitment, and hope.”

I am honored that this review has found its place in the pages of Actualitatea Muzicală, and I extend my sincere thanks to everyone who contributes to promoting authentic cultural values.

Dimitrie Cantemir (1673-1723) stands among the greatest figures of our cultural heritage - a visionary scholar, philosopher, prince, composer, and one of the first Enlightenment minds of Eastern Europe. A musician among rulers and a ruler among musicians, his extraordinary legacy continues to inspire over three centuries later.

📜 Around 1703-1704, Cantemir authored The Book of the Science of Music, a groundbreaking work in which he developed an original system of musical notation and documented the rich traditions of Ottoman classical music. His treatise remains one of the most valuable historical sources for understanding the music of its time.

💎 In this unique adaptation of Der makām ı ‘Uzzâl uşūleş Devr i kebīr, composer Vlad Răzvan Baciu reimagines one of Cantemir's musical jewels for violin and piano—two instruments that had not yet emerged in their modern form when these melodies first captivated audiences centuries ago. This arrangement creates a dialogue between the past and the present, allowing Cantemir's timeless music to resonate with contemporary listeners.

𝘼𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙪 este o compoziție pentru voce și pian scrisă pentru duo-ul Simolka-Wohlhauser, pe versurile poetului și profesorului Georgian Ionescu, lucrare ce va fi interpretată în: Basel, Köln, Berlin, Paris, Hellange (Luxemburg), Erlangen, München, București și Iași. Poemul evocă, prin imagini simple și luminoase, urmele lăsate de o prezență dragă: crinii înfloriți, prunii încărcați de rod, animalele din grajd și copiii rămași în așteptare. Muzica urmărește această tensiune delicată dintre absență și continuitate, dintre plecare și permanența vie a memoriei. În același timp, lucrarea reprezintă un omagiu adus bunicului meu, Pintilie Baciu, a cărui amintire a însoțit procesul de creație și a conferit compoziției o dimensiune profund personală și afectivă. Multe mulțumiri organizatorilor, lui Christine Simolka și René Wohlhauser.

𝙁𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙡 is a composition for voice and piano written for the Simolka-Wohlhauser Duo, based on a poem by the poet and teacher Georgian Ionescu, work that will be performed in: Basel, Köln, Berlin, Paris, Hellange (Luxemburg), Erlangen, München, București and Iași. Through images of luminous simplicity, the poem evokes the traces left behind by a beloved presence: lilies just coming into bloom, plum trees bending under their fruit, the animals waiting in the barn, and the children left behind in expectation. The music explores the delicate tension between absence and continuity, departure and the enduring presence of memory, transforming everyday gestures and rural imagery into spaces of remembrance and affection. At the same time, the work stands as a tribute to my grandfather, Pintilie Baciu, whose memory accompanied the creative process and endowed the composition with a deeply personal and emotional dimension. My deepest gratitude to the organisers, to Christine Simolka and René Wohlhauser.

Lord, I’d Like was written in 2003, during my time in Athens, while I was studying high school in the Greek language. At that time, many of my classmates and professors in Greece did not speak English, and I did not yet know Greek - what a struggle. In the middle of this silence between languages and cultures, I sat down and composed this piece with a simple but profound hope: that one day we would all speak the same language - a language of understanding, peace, and love - a world without borders, where humanity could live together in harmony.

For me, this music became more than a composition; it became a prayer.

Over the years, the piece continued its journey: first performed in Greek, later sung as a solo in Romanian by my sister, Marta, and now finally brought to life in its fullest form through choir, orchestra, and my wonderful wife, Larisa Scumpu-Baciu at the piano.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to pastor and poet Ion Buciuman for the amazing Romanian version of the lyrics (2013), to Adventus University, to the choir members and orchestra musicians, Speranța TV, and to everyone who helped make this special event possible.

De curând finalizată, 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑺𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒆 pentru tobă mică solo.

Faceți cunoștință cu Private Snare – noul recrut din regimentul ritmurilor! Această piesă pornește la pas hotărât prin lumea regulamentelor, trilurilor și loviturilor precise, combinând disciplina militară cu un strop de umor și rebeliune. Între accentele clare și micile „gafe” intenționate, toboșarul devine un soldat începător care învață arta controlului, dar și plăcerea de a ieși uneori din formație. Plină de energie, spirit și atitudine, Private Snare îi provoacă pe tinerii percuționiști să se distreze, să fie expresivi și să arate că și o singură tobă poate susține întreaga „paradă”!

O mică sugestie de interpretare:
Stai drept, cântă cu mândrie și, dacă îți scapă vreun băț… recuperează-l cu stil!
