Construite în perioada 2005 - 2011, ES64U4 sunt locomotive universale multisistem trifazate bazate pe tehnologia familiei de tip Siemens EuroSprinter. În anul 2006, în timpul testelor pe noua linie construită între Nurnberg și Ingolstadt, ES64U4 a depășit recordul de viteza, atingând viteza de 357 km/h.
